• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Choice of playing recordings from oldest to newest and quick scrolling through recordings forward or backwards.

I hate to be a negative Nancy here, but should Unication expand into the scanner market, the addition of the additional bands and modes a scanner consumer requires maintaining the high quality receiver the G's have would raise the cost beyond what most consumers are willing to pay. People are already griping about the $700+ they shell out for a scanner with multiple bands and modes. Putting all that technology into a professional grade device such as the G series is gonna make it unaffordable to most and the only way to keep the costs down would be to lower the quality of the device to that of the current scanners available. I would love to be proven wrong. My G4 is far superior to my SDS100 as a trunking receiver, despite its limitations as a scanner.

Why not a joint venture with Uniden or Whistler??? That way Unication doesn't have to build it from the ground up....

Just a suggestion :)

Well, negative Nancy meet negative Ned! I feel as you do that if Unication were to design a stand-alone scanner with the features some are looking for, the price would compete with the most expensive products from Icom or AOR. I prefer to see what the future G-series firmware update explained in another thread will do before asking Unication to design and produce an entirely different product.

In my opinion - sure, make a "scanner" version BUT don't try to make it a "wideband do-all" to match the common scanner approach. Leave the tried and true "guts" essentially alone and keep it a single or dual band choice as the pagers are now. Keep the RF quality as-is. They don't have to have a air band, civil and military, plus low band plus 23 cm Ham band touching the 2.4 GHz ISM band super-spectrum coverage unit. Keep the essential quality as it is now and focus on the main bands of interest to those needing good reasonably solid performance on the main LMR bands used for conventional and trunking and digital modulation types.

I just ordered my second G4. I tried to like the SDS100 - and had I not had a G4 previously I would not know any better - but the G4 is the best at what it does. Hands down. A Unication scanner is something I would wait in line to get for sure!

Thank you! These scanners that have WiFi, GPS, recording, interfaces, etc are why I can't afford one. Whoever makes a simple Simulcast Vhf, Uhf, 800, trunked at a reasonable price will corner the market with everyone updating and keeping their old rigs for the old stuff.
Is there some way to let Unication know other than email?

GPS can be added to a product by the manufacturer for $20 or less if it's integrated into the design from the outset.

Yep, Icom did it with their R30 portable. I' don't know if the cost was near $20 but my guess is it was close.

I would be awesome to have an ALL Band in a little larger form factor. Similar to an APX 8000. PPS programing, Bluetooth and if at all possible front panel programing. I personally run a g3 g5 and sds100, as I love them all for different things but its a pain. I like the PPS software to be able to program exactly what I want to monitor but I use the sds100 for more of reference to program the unication devices. I listen to multiple systems and I don't mind having to switch between them.
