• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I was just quoting what a Unication Rep said to me when I made the suggestion that they should considering making a scanner.

GIVE IT A BREAK ALREADY AND MOVE ON!
The only problem is that they have acquiesced and are looking at developing firmware which makes the G series pager more scanner like, which opened the flood gates in a "if they give an inch, take a mile" fashion. If you haven't seen the wish list threads in the Uniden and GRE/Whistler forums, this is your introduction to that mentality. This is nothing more than a wish list thread and if Unication takes the suggestions, great, but I don't think anyone truly believes that the simple suggestion will result in action....although, the firmware development came out of similar suggestions. Telling people to move on in a thread dedicated to what you are telling them to move on from is kind of counterproductive.

,I mentioned move on because people were beating me up over my post. Look at how many times it has been quoted including this time. The OP posted that he suggested to Unication that they make a scanner that's where I was coming from. I know they're upgrading the current G series and I'm looking forward to it.

I think we just all ought to wait and see what the future scanner firmware does for us before asking for a totally new model to be produced. The update may just work so well, and for far less or no cost, that it makes all this wishing and hoping moot.

Volume offset option. If scanning between two systems, the ability to adjust ones volume to more closely match the volume of the other system.

I was browsing around some sites about the Ohio MARCS system. On one of the actual MARCS pages I read some thing like the Unication G4 & 5s can only be used by currently subscribed users.
Does that mean I would not be able to program a G4 or 5 to receive the local MARCS systems???

The Unication G4/5 pagers do an excellent job monitoring Ohio MARCS. I have been using a G5 for a few years now, and it has been working flawlessly on this system. The writer may be referring to doing an import from RadioReference into the PPS software.

Im curious what features you would see different in the G% vs a proposed scanner. I've seen posts about costs, features, etc. The G5 is a rock solid receiver. It often picks up signal when my issued radio doesn't. IMHO it would cost a fortune to build an all band scanner with as sensitive a receiver as the G5.
My suggestions:
1. The ability to scan VHF/UHF/700/800.
2. The ability to scan multiple systems at once.
3. Scan delay.
4. Talkgroup hold.
5. Replace channel knob with rotary control for scrolling through talkgroups or use up and down arrows or the navigation key.
6. If keeping the channel knob, increase it from 8 to 16 positions.
Thank you for your consideration!
What do you think a price range for this would be in your opinion?

As many of you know I and a few others are Pre Beta testing firmware with a couple scanner features for the G series pager.

I am strongly suggesting to Unication to consider developing a new Scanner model.
Please give them any support for them to make a scanner and also give any suggestions for a scanner model.
I need everyones help to make this happen.

Lets show Unication we all want another scanner.

Thanks
Any chance this be a sticky so be easy for Unication to follow?

I hate to be a negative Nancy here, but should Unication expand into the scanner market, the addition of the additional bands and modes a scanner consumer requires maintaining the high quality receiver the G's have would raise the cost beyond what most consumers are willing to pay. People are already griping about the $700+ they shell out for a scanner with multiple bands and modes. Putting all that technology into a professional grade device such as the G series is gonna make it unaffordable to most and the only way to keep the costs down would be to lower the quality of the device to that of the current scanners available. I would love to be proven wrong. My G4 is far superior to my SDS100 as a trunking receiver, despite its limitations as a scanner.
I have to agree with you ESPECIALLY on the receiver. My G5 picks up signal where my issued radio doesn't. The receiver is awesome.

It can be programmed to receive MARCS. MARCS uses QCII on P25 for most of its alerting and when setting up paging it requires that they force the TGID to the pertinent sites so that may be why they have that on there.

The Unication devices are available to anyone. They make pagers for wide variety of uses. The G series are not "fire service pagers". They are an open market and they are utilized by much greater audiences than fire service. I know of property management companies, tow companies, police agencies and a few taxi services that use them.
IN Rhode Island? No you don't.
