I've had no problem programming my BCT-15 or my older scanners, however.....
Anyone up to speed on the bc796d and or programming NC VIPER into a non-DMA scanner? I know its been out a few years, but I've just got one. Not quite clear on programming this bc796d or ProScan software. I'm in West North Carolina and trying to dowload the VIPER sites for my area and also the statewide system talkgroups. I'm using Proscan and downloading from the RR site. The uniden manual says: "Each of your scanner’s banks holds 100 channels that can be a mix of conventional (nontrunked) channels and one trunking system." Okay, by trunking "system", do they mean the entire VIPER "system" ( a Motorola ASTRO, 800 MHz. v4.1 SmartZone Type II, 3600 Baud Trunked Radio System operating in simulcast Mode) or just the individual tower "sites" (of which I would be scanning three)? Also the manual states "lets you store 10 groups of 10 ID’s each per bank". I'm not sure how many talkgroup IDs I'm going to use, but if it is over 100, do they roll over to the next bank or will it just stop input at 100? Do I need to program just the control channel or all channels in the site?

Since I am the "VIPER Geek" here at RR.com I will help ya out :)
1) Since the 796 is a non-dma radio you can only have one VIPER tower site per bank. So if you wanted to use up all 10 banks you could in theory load 10 different tower sites with one for each bank. You can mix conventional frequencies in with the sites but you can only have one trunked site per bank.
2) Your scanner will stop at 100 per bank and will not roll over. So you might have to do some planning on how you want to divide up the IDs.
3) Since the 796 has the CC only feature you could program in just the Primary & Alternate Control Channels for each site you set up in each bank. But again the caveat is still only one site per bank.
If you have other VIPER related questions feel free to drop back by the NC Forum and we will get ya squared away! :)
Happy Monitoring!
