Hello

I'm new to scanner so please I need help pretty bad, I recently obtained a Uniden BC95XLT and I'm located in Tampa, I'm trying to listen to the FireDepartment and The police, I was actually able to listen to the Police on the 800Mhz frequency, I used the list of frequencies posted on this link Hillsborough County Public Safety Trunking System, Hillsborough County, Florida - Scanner Frequencies I was wondering should the scanner jump between frequencies or just stay at one all the time? and I also asked around to a firefighter on dutty and he told me they use the 800Mhz frequency but he didnt tell me the exact frequency, Like I said so far I'm not able to listen to the FireDepartment, but the Tampa Police I guess Is working OK. any suggestions? Should I need to buy another scanner? what would be a good scanner for my area? I heard that in two more years everything would be digital.

Unfortunately the 95 is not a trunking scanner - you could listen to individual frequencies, but you could not isolate one group of users from another. They would all tend to blend together. You need a trunktracker - but which one is yet another question.

Just looking at our database, while the system you have listed is evidently active, there is a digital system for that area also listed. I would spend some time in our Florida forum (there is, in fact, a thread strictly devoted to the Hillsbourough system here) to get the straight story about what is about to happen, or will happen, in the future. Just clicking on the blue 'here' will take you there - anything blue on this site is likely to be some kind of link.

If I were starting off, and wanted something pre-programmed, I would be looking at the GRE PSR-800 or Uniden's Home Patrol - both are significantly more expensive than the 95, but both also are digital capable, and will work on the (apparently) upcoming P25 700 Mhz system.

Hello Mike

Thank you very much for your reply and advice, so I bought the 95 on amazon so today I went to my local post office and sent it back, and yes those other scanners are are more expensive than the 95 so I am going to save more money and when I get the amount I'll buy a digital scanner with trunking, I really like the BCD996XT would that be a good alternative for what I want to listen? Tampa Police, Firefighters, and Tampa International Airport

Best Regards
Joe
