I have had the handheld Uniden BCD396XT for some time, over 2 years. I had the unit off for a long time plugged in. I just recently turned the unit back on and the display words are completely backwards. Once the screen loads, I can do things with the keypad and dials but the screen won't change, it is stuck. I have looked everywhere to see if anyone else had the same problem but couldn't find anything. I contacted Uniden for assistance and got the programmed "send your unit in for repair". To me, it is a firmware issue and I'm thinking that I need to do a firmware update to rectify the issue. Am I in the ballpark for this one. I can provide a picture to further assist.

Using Freescan go to scanner tab, setup scanner options tab, general tab,
under the lcd block uncheck the flip display upside-down block.

I don't think that would work as the display is not upside down, it's completely reversed. The upside down only works on the 996 models as far as I know anyway.

That screen just hurts my eyes looking at it! Haha

Concur. Master Reset, then reprogram and see if that works. If not, then yes, send it in!

I thought it was odd that the HOLD at the bottom was correct but the rest of the display was reversed.
Note also the bur edge effect that usually shows on LCD at failures
