Rocksteady....you are the MAN.... Dude, Upman told me the Garmin GPS18 wouldnt work because it was a different format, but seeing it on your post, I plugged it in, told the scanner I was about 5 states away, and selected Location....it found me perfectly, and enabled all the stuff within about 50 miles of me. This is great. It has a regular USB plug on the end of the GPS, which works on my 536. Now I need to find if there is an adapter to make it work with a 436. If I can find one, Im gonna get a 436 for my work truck.

Thank you. I am a miser so I do what I can to save money. I can't justify spending more money when I have so many things to try.

What kind of USB port is on the 436? I would need a female USB (like the ports on a computer) on one end to plug the GPS into, what needs to be on the other end to plug into the 436? I dont have one yet, so I have no idea. Also, in your video you plugged the scanner into the cigarette plug...Im assuming that it wont power the GPS without external power?

It's actually the same port as the port used to program the 396xt/396t. So I don't know what they call it but if you like I can take a pic.

Yea, that would be helpful. Im trying to figure out if its a standard USB or some proprietary one that would require me to purchase the special cable for it. My 536 uses a standard USB port on it, but the BCT15 has some weird port.

You will need to buy the 396 cable. I linked it in the thread for 15 bucks.

This is the adapter you need. Just bought 3 of them for 14.95 each. Also got 3 of the garmin 18 pc used for 22.00 each. They seem to work. When I plug them in they show gps on screen. You need to turn on the gps function and set the baud rate to 4800 bps. Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=400651345048

I have a Garmin GPS18-USB, not PC. I dont think its working, because the GPS indicatior on the display doesnt light up. When I do a LOCATION SEARCH, it puts a status bar on the screen and selects my county and asks if it is OK, but If I just say, scan by zip code in some remote state, and plug the GPS in, it never changes to the state I am in. Just keeps scanning the remote state. Might be a difference between the GPS18 -pc and the USB version I have.

That's correct usb on 536 is for wifi. There is a 9 pin serial on the 536 that you connect your gps to. The garmin puck has the 9 pin cable ready for the 536 and if you want to use it on the 436/396/hp1 you need to buy the adapter that goes from a 9 pin serial to a Rs232 port. They were linked by several people in prior posts. If you buy the uniden puck it has both plugs coming off the end to go to the unit of your choice

Now I have a question can the uniden gps puck with both plugs be plugged into one of each to run or do you need 1 unit per scanner?

I saw a post by Upman earlier that stated you could use one GPS for many scanners using a splitter, so I would be inclined to think yours would run one of each.
