Hello I just purchased a BCD536HP and I am very impressed and happy with my choice so far it seems great however I am having an issue already, I havent changed ANY of the settings I basically plugged it in, put in my zip and I have been listening I just got it 2 days ago, so the problem that I am having is that the audio is pulsing in and out at a constant rate intermittently, even if I am recieving a transmission that is constant like a weather service the signal and audio cuts out for about half a second every second and a half or something it pulses in and out rather than staying open to recieve the complete tramsmission, I dont remember the radio ever doing this in its first day of use it seems the problem developed today and I am not sure if this is a popular or known issue if anyone knows anything I appreciate the advice or help, otherwise maybe I will try to do a factory reset maybe I hit a button and changed something I dont know I really have not been messing with it at all much just hitting hold and scrolling thru departments listening not changing settings etc, and this problem does happen when the squelch is wide open so its not squelching out every second not sure whats going on, listening to the local ham repeater right now and people are talking constantly but the transmission cuts out every second or so for .5 seconds or so and I have a dot with 2 horizontal waves over it, then a ! then where the signal bars are cuts out when the transmission is interrupted, interestingly when I receive a close call transmission its NOT interrupted and comes thru constant like the other audio should be!? lol thanks again for any advice.

it seems that having the close call feature on was causing this breaking of the audio I turned off close call and its fine now, but this presents the problem, shouldnt I be able to (for $500+) use the close call feature while also constantly monitoring whatever other transmission im listening to? Its weird I did not have this problem when I first turned on close call, it keeps picking up a fm transmitter that must be located at my neighbors house or its actually picking up the local broadcast fm channels I am not sure sounds like a fm tuner for a cd player like we used to use in our cars though, but I want to be able to have close call enabled and scan also!!!

There is only ONE receiver, so it can only receive ONE signal at a time. That's why the audio cuts out briefly when Close Call is enabled. (It also happens when you activate a Priority Channel or the WX Alert feature.)

FYI, the 536 has a Close Call setting called CC DND (Do Not Disturb). This setting allows CC to work only when the scanner is not receiving another signal. Check your manual.

I almost forgot... I believe that the 536 also lets you prevent CC from searching certain bands and/or stopping on certain frequencies that you can specify. That should solve your FM station problem.

I would suggest that you invest the time to read the manual carefully. You've paid a lot of money for one of the top scanners and it is a very capable one, but you need to know what it can do for you.
