Hello,

I need help with loading frequencies into a BCD996P2. When I get to the spot where i have to enter the frequencies for a system how do I load more then one. Is there a way to scroll down to put the frequencies in to memory?. I could sure use the advice.

Thanks
John

Yes, I am programing manually . It is pretty easy also until I got to the entering frequencies part.

John
While it is certainly possible to program by hand, through the keypad, it is much quicker to use software. Using software, you can see the full details of your programming without going through multiple steps via the scanner's menu, adding or verifying entrees.

The 996P2 can be programmed with FreeSCAN, and there is a user guide in the Wiki.

You create a "site" for the system , then scroll down in site to "set frequencys" , keep adding each freqy , then keep pressing menu to back out to the next item called "edit group" create a group to contain your TGs when you scan the system they will pop up, you press "E" they will enter in your group,.....

In my opinion, it takes a much deeper understanding of the scanner and the system being programmed to set it up by hand without software. Programming software, especially ones that can import from RadioReference.com, take a lot of complexity out of the process. Nothing wrong with knowing how to do it manually, but the software (and a Win pc) pay for themselves with time saved and entry errors avoided.

Here is a FreeSCAN file with the talkgroups for Marshall and Ohio Counties on the SIRN trunked system. The first file will be your FreeSCAN programming file. The second file is the driver you need to install for your scanner. The 3rd is a PDF file which will answer all of your questions about using quick keys. Save the first file to your computer and extract. Save the second file, extract, and install the extracted driver. The third file does not need to be extracted. Run FreeSCAN. With your scanner on, connect your computer to the scanner with the USB cable. Open the extracted Marshall_Ohio Co file with FreeSCAN. Go to the Scanner tab and click on Upload Programming. Highlight Erase All Systems & Settings. Click on Start Upload. When transfer is completed, you can remove the cable. Quick keys as follows:

Marshall/Ohio Co
SYSTEM QUICK KEYS:
1. SIRN St Joseph (Site)
2. SIRN Ohio Co (Site)
GROUP QUICK KEYS:
1. MarshCo Interop
2. MarshCo EmergOps
3. MarshCo Fire/EMS
4. MarshCo Law
5. OhioCo Interop
6. OhioCo EmergOps
7. OhioCo Fire/EMS
8. OhioCo Law
9. WV State Police

I was able to figure it out. I want to thank everyone for their help. One question that I have is at around 2:00 this morning I started to pick up a radio program. That has never happened to me before. I can't remember what the frequency was. Has this ever happened to anyone else. Can radio stations be pregramed into this unit?.

You probably accidentally pushed in on the squelch knob and turned on close call. If you see an icon on the lower right corner of the display, press the squelch knob once or twice until the icon completely disappears.

Yes the 996P2 is capable of picking up standard radio stations. I have several programmed into my 325P2.
