Uniden BCD996XT Serial to USB adapter

I was wondering if someone who has a Uniden BCD996XT and is using the stock serial cable, with a serial to USB adapter, could recommend one online? Especially from a Canadian site if possible. The Uniden USB cable is so expensive here at $50, plus tax and shipping. I don't know why they still put a serial cable in the box. Why not get with the modern age? So I'm just looking to buy a Serial to USB adapter. One I got in the past didn't work, so I wanted to ask someone who has one that is already working for them.

I also plan to use Butel's ARCXT Pro software, so I was wondering if virtual control works with any of the adapters that people are using? Just want to make sure it still works with that.

The model number of the scanner has no real bearing here...

There's no need to spend money to get perfectly good software to get you off the ground - FreeScan is made by a Canadian (OK so I'm splitting the difference between the USB stuff and software - so sue me!)...here's the URL

well the model number of the scanner is important to me since i want to hear from someone who is using the same scanner since i bought adapters in the past and they didn't work with all scanners. i already own the butel software though and like it. i had this scanner in the past and kept the software for it. the sites listed on the link you shared are for US sites too and I was hoping to hear from someone who bought from a canadian site since if i order from the US, after all the taxes, shipping and duty it will be the same or more than the $50 uniden USB cable here in canada. thank you for your reply though

From the second link you gave I saw one from startech so checked amazon.ca and they have it there, so will go with that one i think.

Try Staples serial adapter model 18762, version: 1.2, works on the same scanner, used it to do udgrades and also works on other devices. Cost about twenty bucks.
