I tried this Thread under Uniden ... but didn't get any help ...
So I thought I would try the area that seems to be where the "Scanner Enthusiasts" are.

I was trying out one of the search features (control channel only search) on the 996XT but seem to be having a problem.

I did a custom search ... set up the frequency limits ... put the "Set C-Ch ONLY" to the "ON"
(I believe this is the Control Channel Only Feature?)

I get the following on the display ... maybe someone could explain it to me.

Custom 9 ... Then flashes SID: 6904h as well as 753Fh-0004
ID: - - - - - - - - (talk groups came up a few times with audio - some were just static)
863.5125 as well as other freq come on the Freq Line (some LINK some ENC)
I get no audio of any kind ...
Sometimes I get "MOT System" and sometimes I see "LT System"

I noticed that it stops on different frequencies ... are these the control channels in the area?
If so ... does this particular model (996XT) store these frequencies somewhere ... or do I have to set that up as well.

Thanks for your help

Hello. I am not sure what you are trying to do. I see you are in Calagary, but posting in the California forum. Are you scanning in California?

I tried this Thread under Uniden ... but didn't get any help ... So I thought I would try the area that seems to be where the "Scanner Enthusiasts" are.
I originally ignored the posts because I don't use this scanner.

I did a custom search ... set up the frequency limits ... put the "Set C-Ch ONLY" to the "ON" (I believe this is the Control Channel Only Feature?)
Yes, control channel only mode. That means it can scan a trunked system after only knowing the active control channel.

I get the following on the display ... maybe someone could explain it to me.

Custom 9 ... Then flashes SID: 6904h as well as 753Fh-0004

Looks like the System ID.

863.5125 as well as other freq come on the Freq Line (some LINK some ENC) I get no audio of any kind ...
ENC means encypted, the scanner can not decode the audio. I am not sure about LINK.

Sometimes I get "MOT System" and sometimes I see "LT System"
That's the type of system.

I noticed that it stops on different frequencies ... are these the control channels in the area?
Did you hear voice? Or did they just display this data? If you heard voice, then no. Otherwise it sounds as though they were control channels.

If so ... does this particular model (996XT) store these frequencies somewhere ... or do I have to set that up as well.
If you want to SCAN a trunked radio system, you are far better off programming it with what you want. There are a ton of options. You'll also be able to program in just the talkgroups you want to hear.

There are also a lot of trunked systems out there. Some are used by private business, some by government agencies like public works in addition to public safety. If you let the scanner just acquire what it can, you'll end up with a lot you probably don't want to hear.
