• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I decided to go with the Uniden Home Patrol HP-1 with a Ram Mount, connected to a Garmin Nuvi 350 for both navigation and the Uniden, driving a Radio Shack Amplified Communications speaker also mounted to the windshield with a Ram mount. I used 1/2 flexible split tubing (loom) to keep the three power wires together and connect to a Wagan Twin USB/DC Power Adapter. So far, I really am liking this set up. I really like having one GPS for BOTH the Uniden and navigation. The Ram Mounts seem to really work well. I am tempted to switch from a Garmin mount to a Ram mount for the Garmin Nuvi 350.

Now I just need to figure out which antenna and mobile mount to use. Right now I am just using an 800 mHz commercial rubber duck antenna inside the vehicle. For listening to the Minnesota ARMER system it is fine, but for other stuff I may want a mobile antenna.

Hi JASII:

That's a very impressive setup! Looks neat and clean and should work very nice for you now and even better after you mount an external antenna. I use a Spectra trunk mount on my mobile and love how it receives, but everyone has their own favorites so you'll get a lot of opinions.

Now tell me - don't you get nervous leaving this setup in the vehicle in plain sight when you're not in it or within visual range?? If you're in a low crime area that's fine, but I'd be sleeping in the car overnight.

Anyway...well done on the installation!

Here's the Spectra on my mobile...just to show you.

Russell

Thank you for the reply. No, I am not nervous because I aprk it in the attached garage at home. I live on a five acre hobby farm in the country. At work I park in an underground parking garage of a building that is, well, lets just say very secure.

Now, if I lived here Google Maps Catches Teens With Gun At House Where Baby Found Dead « CBS Detroit in Detroit next to those fellas, I might be a bit more concerned. On the other hand, perhaps they getting ready to go pheasant hunting. You just never know, there might be quite a few pheasants in Detroit!

Seems like the passenger side airbag could turn the speaker into a projectile (I may be wrong due to angles).

Just a quick question......I was under the impression that the Garmin Nuvi's would not work with the HP-1. Have I been mislead, and how old is that Garmin unit, and how did you hook it up, if I may ask ??? Thanks !!!!

GTRANS Garmin to NMEA Translator Cable (D-Sub Style)

GTRANS Garmin to NMEA Translator Cable (D-Sub Style) - Argent Data Systems - APRS Hardware

You need the Argent Data Systems GTRANS Garmin to NMEA Translator Cable (D-Sub Style). That allows the Garmin Fleet Management Interface data to get converted to NMEA-0183, which is what the Uniden Home Patrol HP-1 uses. The Garmin Nuvi 350 is about 6 years old. The Garmin units known to be compatible with this are:

Garmin nüvi 300 series

StreetPilot c340

StreetPilot 7000 series

StreetPilot 2820 series

StreetPilot 2720 series

zumo 400 series

zumo 500 series
