I am a newbie to scanners. Is the Uniden better than Radioshack. Looking at the BC92XLT model.

There is no "better"... only opinion. Each has their positives and each has their negatives. The bc92xlt will not trunk-track like your Pro94 does.

I prefer Uniden, but that's biased, because all I've ever owned were Uniden scanners. But I like the look and feel of the Uniden products. Though you should try to search on the web for some product reviews. THose can tell you what to look for, and point you in the right direction as to what scanner brand really meets your needs.

Jayfurd,

So should I stay with the RS Pro-94. The reason I am looking at the Uniden is the smaller size and it looks less complicated to work. Does that make sense.

Thanks for the info.

Well, if you ask a question such as that in the Uniden scanner forum, guess what, you're going to get a deceptively pro-Uniden response :) . I do prefer the Uniden to the GRE (RadioShack) models. Each have their pluses and minuses, but Uniden has a lot more pluses that work for me right now (and seems to have me locked in for future models too!)
Do some research, read reviews and decide which has the features/performance you desire. We can't outright say that A is better than B for you.

Hello,

Your first question is made more difficult by the fact that some scanners sold by Radio Shack are made by GRE and others (also sold by Radio Shack) are made by Uniden. If you are looking at the Uniden BC92 (or 72) then you should also look at the RS Pro-83. The Pro-83 is also made by Uniden and unlike the BC72 or BC92, has a computer interface. If you are looking for a newer unit that does trunking, then you should be looking at the Pro-97 or the BC246T. The Pro-97 has Mil-Air coverage, which the BC246T does not, but the BC246T has Dynamic memory which the Pro-97 does not. The BC246T has the same form factor as the BC72 and BC92 and the Pro-83. All four of the Unidens mentioned run on 2 AA batteries. The Pro-97 runs on 4 AAs. If you are happy with your Pro-94, I would keep it and also look to see what else is available that would be fun to play with. (The BR330T comes to mind.)

No, not necessarily. Like the other guys have stated, just do some comparisons of different models before you make a final decision. Some are partial to a particular brand, while others (including myself) own several scanners of both brands, and use each model for a different purpose. Chances are that if you stay with the hobby, you will eventually own several scanners; perhaps of different brands.

Uniden 92 XLT or Pro 83

If you don't need trunking, buy the '92. The simple reason is price. On sale the pro 83 is $100, and the antenna must be replaced it's useless. For about $110 the BC 92 comes with Ac adaptor 2 nimh batteries and a better antenna, (although not great). That's all folks, Austin
