So sorry to hear about mancow's wife. When the time is right, I'll ask if its possible to integrate a front facing speaker.

@WatnNY how many cables does it take to run the run the unit. Looks like you had 3 plugged in.

Just two, but there's a menagerie of cables on my desk, which I need to desperately clean! There's a USB-C for power, and a USB-A that connects to the scanner. Easy Peasy and I hope the cables hide easily in the car... I would love the idea of a front facing speaker, but I thought I heard/read/dreamt/made up that you can't get sound through a USB cable? Does that make sense if there's a speaker socket in the remote control head? Even then, at the very least, that's more pieces to buy to put in the unit and all new cases. Maybe that's why Scanner Master decided to pull the plug on their project. I was going to ask Rich Carlsen if they had a few lying around that were already made, that he would like to sell, but I saw @mancow's project. I read the entire post, all 42 pages, and saw the different models people were making. I saw the posts about mancow's wife and felt so bad for him. I took notice that there hadn't been much traffic on the thread, and figured I was beat. But I wrote to him and asked him if he happened to have any built that they never sold. I got a prompt, positive reply from him saying I had emailed him at just the right time. He must have one all done up and ready to go. I was pretty excited, I have to be honest.

Can you t
Can you turn the scanner on and off from the remote head ?
No, it does not. I also just found at then when press exit on the control head, it takes you to another screen that has a button to stop the unit. Once you do that you have to unplug the power cord and reinsert it to make the remote head start working again. That might be a lot of wear and tear on cables and ports.

I've had mine for at least 3, maybe 4 years and have simply loved it to death. Sadly, a few months back it stopped booting up, it's probably the SD card, but life has been too busy for me to open it up to see if it'll boot off another SD card.

Also, would like to know if the sound comes out of the remote head and what was the cost of this unit. (DM if you're not comfortable saying the price)

Unfortunately,no sound out yet. It's just a remote touch display interface with GPS if wanted at this point. I am working on other features like ethernet connectivity and sound out or even an integrated speaker. I would like to explore bluetooth but I don't have one of the new 150s and it's a bit pricey right now due to other expenses but maybe someday. I've been using the original code as a foundation and having AI models assist with cleaning things up and adding features.

Likely so or if totally dead is often a TVS diode at the input power port. I think you reached out to me about it but things dropped off and we got busy. Let's catch up again and I will get you fixed up.

A front firing speaker is an interesting idea that I had explored for a bit. Getting sound to it is the main issue. It's not possible via USB but is via ethernet. If I can get that sussed out then it should be doable. I do still have some tiny audio amplifier modules as well as some rotary encoders. My thought back then was a wider case with speaker grille and knobs but the touch screen was much cleaner. Of course, both could be integrated.

For my purposes display only would be fine. My scanner is accessible from the driver's seat of my truck, but the angle the radio is mounted at combined with the wimpy maximum brightness of the display makes it hard to see the display during the day.

I'd have thought that being based on Texas Uniden would know that was an issue. Even in MA when I lived there it was often difficult to see.

Which is to say, mancow let me know when one is available, thanks.

Add me to the list if one can be made with a front firing speaker. My car is too small to mount things :(

Now THAT's customer service! 3 or 4 years after a sale being willing to help a customer out!

Yeah, I've been super busy. I need to buy a new SD card and put the program on it to see if it'll boot. If I remember correctly it tried, but does not go past a certain point. What size card do you recommend?

I run external speakers on all my gear so just the display is a game changer. right now my scanner is under the back seat and need to boot up a PC to see whats on it. I just leave it in scan on one system but it would be nice to see the display.
