Just two, but there's a menagerie of cables on my desk, which I need to desperately clean! There's a USB-C for power, and a USB-A that connects to the scanner. Easy Peasy and I hope the cables hide easily in the car... I would love the idea of a front facing speaker, but I thought I heard/read/dreamt/made up that you can't get sound through a USB cable? Does that make sense if there's a speaker socket in the remote control head? Even then, at the very least, that's more pieces to buy to put in the unit and all new cases. Maybe that's why Scanner Master decided to pull the plug on their project. I was going to ask Rich Carlsen if they had a few lying around that were already made, that he would like to sell, but I saw @mancow's project. I read the entire post, all 42 pages, and saw the different models people were making. I saw the posts about mancow's wife and felt so bad for him. I took notice that there hadn't been much traffic on the thread, and figured I was beat. But I wrote to him and asked him if he happened to have any built that they never sold. I got a prompt, positive reply from him saying I had emailed him at just the right time. He must have one all done up and ready to go. I was pretty excited, I have to be honest. So sorry to hear about mancow's wife. When the time is right, I'll ask if its possible to integrate a front facing speaker.
@WatnNY how many cables does it take to run the run the unit. Looks like you had 3 plugged in.
Can you t
No, it does not. I also just found at then when press exit on the control head, it takes you to another screen that has a button to stop the unit. Once you do that you have to unplug the power cord and reinsert it to make the remote head start working again. That might be a lot of wear and tear on cables and ports. Can you turn the scanner on and off from the remote head ?
I am working on building up an inventory of a few. So, yes, you can get one.Mike-
Before I begin pestering the crap out of @mancow, can you please advise if this is just a one-off, or is he willing to make some of more of these wonderful remote control heads?
Thanks!
Also, would like to know if the sound comes out of the remote head and what was the cost of this unit. (DM if you're not comfortable saying the price)
Likely so or if totally dead is often a TVS diode at the input power port. I think you reached out to me about it but things dropped off and we got busy. Let's catch up again and I will get you fixed up.I've had mine for at least 3, maybe 4 years and have simply loved it to death. Sadly, a few months back it stopped booting up, it's probably the SD card, but life has been too busy for me to open it up to see if it'll boot off another SD card.
I'll add you to the list.Thats pretty slick. Guess I'll be on the wait list for one if he ever offically sells them.
Many thanks!I am working on building up an inventory of a few. So, yes, you can get one.
Add me to the list if one can be made with a front firing speaker. My car is too small to mount thingsUnfortunately,no sound out yet. It's just a remote touch display interface with GPS if wanted at this point. I am working on other features like ethernet connectivity and sound out or even an integrated speaker. I would like to explore bluetooth but I don't have one of the new 150s and it's a bit pricey right now due to other expenses but maybe someday. I've been using the original code as a foundation and having AI models assist with cleaning things up and adding features.
Now THAT's customer service! 3 or 4 years after a sale being willing to help a customer out!Likely so or if totally dead is often a TVS diode at the input power port. I think you reached out to me about it but things dropped off and we got busy. Let's catch up again and I will get you fixed up.
