A little confused here. So I take it the SDS100 doesn’t use AA batteries but has its own battery? I just watched ScannerMaster live feed on his way to the Hamvention and he said something about using the GPS to power or charge the radio. Can someone clarify the battery. Can you use and charge at the same time?
Thanks

I think post #11 (Upman) answered this (I hope).

What do you think?

I agree but if no external charger is available from the start those who buy are kinda screwed. I am still on the fence on whether or not I am going to get one as I said when it was announced.

Are you implying they will ship the radio with a proprietary battery pack and then no way to charge it?

How would we be screwed by only being able to use the internal charging capability? Esp if it charges while on like pretty much every other device does these days.

I am tired of the 3 AA's in my 436 always dying quickly and the remove/insert process sucks along with the fact that my external chargers only do batts in pairs. I would be fine to go back to the good 'ol days of my BC200XLT with the whole bottom being a battery pack.

Batteries seem like they have been Uniden's achilles heel for quite some time. I hope to see some lithium tech at least on par with $20 dollar store cellphones finally.

Found my answer in the manual about the charging but nothing mention if the battery pack can be removed and replaced. Like many devices with internal batteries there life expectancy goes down over time.

Will we be able to do the following:
1. Replace the battery
2. Charge externally
3. Will spare batteries be made available

Been on and off RR for the last month and just looking for a clear answer without digging through tons of unrelated post.

1/2/3: We have not announced waffle capability at this time. This statement should not be taken to imply that it will someday make waffles or that it will never make waffles.

4: Sending my private Swiss bank account number to you by PM.

Not all areas want waffle capability, what about pancake capability? Some of us would prefer that. Also can I get a PM with that number. In the next two weeks I will be getting my five weeks of vacation pay and 48 hours paid out of sick leave and the timing could not be better.

With Whistler's announcement of a competitor to the SDS100, this horse race should get interesting. Can't wait to see early pics of Whistler's product (they also announced a base version by the way in addition to the portable version.)

Whistler announced a new scanner? I was wondering why the crickets were so loud...

And what's with Whistler using the 100 / 200 in their models? Doesn't Uniden have a patent on that?

Battery pack is removable. We'll also have an external charger accessory. A couple of other things are still pending in the battery saga...I'll let know more, later, as we complete final testing.

As to the 100/200? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I hate to here that Uniden is going with the battery pack with this unit. Its always nice to throw in 4 AAAA's in an emergency situation. But I assume power is the deciding factor here. I have a Uniden Bc-2500 and had to replace the battery pack a few times because the pack will except so many charges and then weakens. This was my most concerned about the SDS-100 but than again maybe since the BC-2500 things have improved.

AAs just don't hold enough energy. We were getting 45 minutes to an hour in testing...

The 2500 is an antique by tech standards. So is the battery technology that was used. I'm sure the Lithium Ion battery in the SDS will do just fine.

The tuner chip in the SDS100 by itself draws as much power as the entire 436 (approximately 200mA). So a much larger battery solution is necessary for the SDS100, if you want decent battery life.

Power Pack cost and rating

How much will each power pack cost ?

If you you're getting less than an hour on a set of AA's , how many hours can we expect on a power pack?
