I have posted the same question in other groups and never really got a good response, I had heard they were on 161.205 working with border patrol units downtown searching trains but i have never heard them on that freq.

yeah, I talked to one at a caseys bbq about a year ago and he said they use vhf so they can talk on all the RR channels. I have heard them on Schertz and comal county during train accidents they ID as UP81**

i've heard the following about UP:

- UP can use any railroad frequency they wish (from 1 to 97)
- UP is primarily dispatched off Kirby PD
- UP works with BP/INS sometimes over a DES-crypto channel
- 163.775 is a BP frequency where UP agents can be found sometimes
- 161.205 is the UP Houston special agent channel, which is also emergency assistance for Amtrack
- no pl's on any of the channels
- radios are/were MTX's and HT1000's dual-dial

now here's a riddle for you rr guys: is it possible that Kirby is simulcasting to an LTR system? some LTR-type activity has been heard lately off their dispatch channel...

Hanky Panky, thanks for posting that info... much appreciated.

On Kirby, it appears they are now CSQ, just running some unit ID stuff (like MDC), with a little roger beep on the repeater. No LTR....
