If I use a 796 as a second scanner for the audio on UniTracker, would encryption be blocked from the audio?

Instantly, or after detected? Trying to understand why the Uniden 396/996 will not block all the encrypted audio.

Oh ... you're asking if the radio will mute the audio when encrypted audio is present. That's up to the radio. The program places the '396 and '996 in "Auto" mode to detect the type of audio present. What type of system are you monitoring? If the program knows a particular call is encrypted - it should ignore it and wait for the next call.

Michigan MPSCS P25. Interesting that UniTrunker can drive the radio to turn off the audio when encrypted voice comms are detected, but the radio firmware will catch the first 200ms or so.

Dave, I think that the 396 is performing the mute of the encryption on its own. I use a 396 without UT and have noted like you've observered you can hear a quick burst of the encrypted audio before the radio mutes it out.

I've noticed that the GRE digital (PRO-96) does not cut off encrypted audio at all, even with data skip on.

True, the 296/796 do this also. I'm trying to understand the method behind the 396/996 enc blocking.

Wouldn't data and emcryption be different?

Yes, but they sound the same. If data skip is supposed to skip over any regularized noises that cannot be demodulated, then it should work on digitally encrypted signals. The only thing data skip does on my GRE scanners is to make them jump off alerting tones on fire and EMS frequencies, which is very annoying.
