• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I agree with your assessments. Have been using one on VHF, UHF and 700/800. The only issue I have had with them at all is getting it to properly affiliate Phase II on a Motorola Astro25 system. No issues at all Phase I tunked, Phase I conventional and analog.

What kind of issues have you had? and do you have any tidbits on what to tweek to get them to work? we are looking at getting some of both the mobiles and portables and that will be a Stopper for us if they will not work on the Moto Phase 2 systems.
Thanks

Harris Unity issues.

I have had the same issue with Motorola Phase II as well. Also MDC1200, or lack thereof. Programming is a learning curve if you are used to Motorola CPS.
(I have used Harris PRC-152's and Thales PRC-148's as well. They both have learning curves.)
Then there is the general durability of the outside case of the radio itself. I have gouged and scratched mine up more than any other vendor of radio I own.
Mine was purchased at a large one time discount, but had I paid full price, I would not have liked the no AM capability.
The Front Panel Programming is really just front panel editing of existing channels and frequencies. You must have the channels already in place, even as place holders. This really annoys me, as a true front panel programming capability can be had on a cheap amateur radio that costs 1/20th the price.

What I do like about this Unity radio:
True multi-band capability. I can program VHF/UHF/800MHz channels into one "Mission Plan" and it works. No picking two bands and ordering the radio with only those two installed. (APX7000).
I never had to get an "Entitlement ID" number to program this for wide-band operation.
Registration of my programming computer was very easy and worked the first time. No customer support calls or logging into a MOL account a dozen times to verify who I am.
Loud audio output.
Color display is very nice to have and makes it easier to see the menu. It would be nice to change these to a color other than blue though.
I have no intention of doing it, but these seem to really be water proof to a few feet. The seal on the battery is tight and feels secure.
Metal belt clip is much better than the plastic ones on everyone else's radio.
Looks very "high speed" to the 3 and 4 letter agencies when you are wearing the same radio as them.

Luckily, everywhere I go in my work, there is Telex or Raytheon interface gear to allow for interoperability between dissimilar radios. The closest radios I have seen to a full spectrum all band, AM/FM/Satcom radio were the military PRC-152 and PRC-148 MBITR/JEM. My wish would be to have a civilian version of one or both of these that actually worked at a price that local law enforcement/fire departments could afford.

No issues at all with Phase I. The most significant challenge if you even want to call it that is some basic translation in programming terms. Band Plans are IDEN sets, RIDs are LIDs, etc. I am still working on the tweaks to figure out exactly what is preventing the radio from affiliating Phase II since the radio is featured for it, it has the latest software from TAC and all settings appear to be correct. I am waiting to hear back from TAC about what exactly the issue could be. It is likely either a bug in the firmware I am running or another programming oversight. There are plenty of Harris radios (including mobile and portable Unity units) affiliating fine on Astro25 Phase II systems. One known bug is that none of the Harris radios will currently suppory having EDACS and Phase II sets in the same radio (the P25 reverts to Phase I). This is a known firmware bug and there is an update in beta to solve this.

Harris XG-100P RPM software updates.

I'm glad I don't have to deal with EDACS here. When was the last software update for Harris RPM that any of you have used?

Mine is MS-012550-001 Revision P, dated Feb/12. Just wondering how much I am behind the curve with this old of software.

The current release of RPM is 9. I am using 10 (not yet officially released). Due to some of the Phase 2 issues I am having I am going to roll one computer back to 9 to see if it fixes the issues.
