Went back thru some of the audio and there's definitely voice on the channel as well, marked as MRN2 GAT B. I'll have to check the host computer to see if there's more but I'm pretty sure there is.

I think, and I may not remember correctly, the 42 Meg freqs may be used by the Forest Products industry in Canada.

The CHP used the 42.92 Meg freq in the San Francisco Bay (Golden Gate Division for the Contra Costa Area) and El Centro Areas, and for the TAC 5 channel pair.

Can someone familiar with Canadian regs and licensing look it up?

Different CTCSS at those other locations unless someone made a mistake. Maroon on 42.92 dates to some time in or after 1991 and before 1996, according to a quick trip down our library shelf memory lane with Police Call and Metronet. Seems unlikely someone would intentionally dup the tone somewhere, internationally or not, as well-known and documented as these channels are. Anyone look at the clip to confirm that it actually has 103.5 on it?

I don't see CTCSS on the chp.zip captures posted earlier, though I'm not familiar enough with the tool (Spectrum Lab) to be sure.

I'm not in a great location to hear Golden Gate on 42.92, but I can hear them just above the noise floor.

I'm not hearing any tones at all. Nothing, not even anything close to what the zip file has.

That is absolutely not originating from CHP. Probably from a co-channel somewhere else.

Contra Costa County, CA uses VHF-lowband for siren alerting systems for industrial emergencies using the CompuLert protocol, it's similar in sound. You're probably hearing a base station polling other devices.

Back to CHP: It's not unusual to occasionally hear a machine-gunning sound for a few seconds at odd hours on certain channels that are simulcast. This is the Tait Quasi-Sync simulcast system realigning itself.

Junk.

How often does it happen? Did I mis-calculate the time, or did Broadcastify not hear it from some place in the bay area?

What was the exact time? There’s a Broadcastify Calls node for 42.92, so you can determine if it’s coming from CA. If it wasn’t recorded by the Calls node, then it’s coming from somewhere else.

On that latest YouTube capture, I see the ~100 Hz subaudible, ~1100 Hz mark tone, and ~2040 Hz space tone. While there's some normal low-band fading, I also hear some evidence that it's from multiple sites.

This SCADA sample sounds somewhat similar: File:Scada2.wav - Signal Identification Wiki .

The only places that is licensed in Canada is New Brunswick Power.

Doesn't mean it isn't used elsewhere, but at least not a public license.
