There's another thread on here - I saw it yesterday - how to prevent Windows updates.

You'll need to search for it. See post @5 of this thread.

I'm still running XP and love it!

I perused that post/procedure... not really thrilled with trying that fix. I'm pretty sure I tried it once before and it apparently didn't take. As long as I can use this much easier workaround I'll pass on the blockage option. Like others have said, how many times do you need to reload? Fortunately for me, not often ;)

Give it another try... I just installed the driver earlier this afternoon and it works as always. The installed Prolific driver is dated 7/31/2007.

For what it's worth, 3.3.2.102 dated 9/24/2008 works also:


The last update forced on me a few days ago nuked the driver. Device manager said something about "outdated contact your manufacturer" or some nonsense.

Yes. I got the same message when I plugged in my cable yesterday, first time I've ever seen that. Fortunately I was able to use the same fix just as easily as I did last week.
