I perused that post/procedure... not really thrilled with trying that fix. I'm pretty sure I tried it once before and it apparently didn't take. As long as I can use this much easier workaround I'll pass on the blockage option. Like others have said, how many times do you need to reload? Fortunately for me, not often

Give it another try... I just installed the driver earlier this afternoon and it works as always. The installed Prolific driver is dated 7/31/2007.

For what it's worth, 3.3.2.102 dated 9/24/2008 works also:


The last update forced on me a few days ago nuked the driver. Device manager said something about "outdated contact your manufacturer" or some nonsense.

Yes. I got the same message when I plugged in my cable yesterday, first time I've ever seen that. Fortunately I was able to use the same fix just as easily as I did last week.

I found this site today which allows my old cable to be used with my BCD396XT.
