What do you think the chances are of the Pro-97 supporting V-Folders?
scanfan03 said:I think the 97 is just going to have Dynamic Memory and no V-Folders.
qoatzecotl said:Nope. It'll have 10 banks of 100, just like the PRO-95 that it's replacing...
And there's nothing at all in the manual about the thing having V-Folders.
Well, "out" is a relative term. It really isn't released yet, but you can see what the draft looks like, as well as other things dealing with the FCC application at this link:scanfan03 said:I didn't know the manual was already out, where can I get it? I figured RS would step up and give us Dynamic Memory, but I guess not.
Although this is a bit off topic, I am curious as to how the 50 channels per bank has "messed up" your scanner plan. If it is too envolved, just send me a PM or maybe start a new topic. I am really curious as for the most part I can't seem to fill up the 50 except when I am trying to cover a massive amount of area in conventional scanning. (You know like the entire side of a state or something similar.)Newzman_Bill said:I sure wish they'd made the 96 with 100 channels per bank. This 50 channel thing really messed up my scanner plan. Of course there would be little reason to buy a new scanner every two years if we got all the functions we wanted in each release.

See, this is what I mean. I cannot understand, unless you guys are keeping everything to yourselves and not sharing. I just counted all the conventional frequencies listed here on the DB for Cuyahoga Co., OH. Now this count includes many frequencies I personally would never listen to like Telemetry, the Public Library, etc., and yet all of these would fit in a single bank of the 96. (There are only 38 listed.) Now granted there are trunking systems that need to be put in, but I still don't see the crowded situation you describe; unless as I said, the Cleveland area is not sharing the frequencies back to the DB.qoatzecotl said:I understand how it is. When you live in an area like I do, you NEED the 100 per bank. Even that might not be enough...

Well, lets consider what you are saying. I said I went to the county page here on the DB. I counted 38 conventional frequencies on the county page and as I said they have things that I would never listen to like 154.47125 a telemetry channel for the Co. Engineer's office, for that matter I probably wouldn't listen to any of the Engineer frequencies unless you guys put road departments in there. How about the two Cleveland Public Library frequencies listed, what are they even doing in the PS section of the DB? There are 4 frequencies that are patches to the RTA trunk system that if you were interested, you would have in the radio to begin with. As for federal, where are they? There are two (2) listed on the page. I did see, after a more careful look that the Hospital/EMS stuff was listed as an seperate agency, and looking at that agency you might fill up a bank if you were interested in putting in all the frequencies, most of which would be operations/paging, etc. The actual emergency channels would probably fit in the first bank (I keep my EMS stuff seperate but that is just me.) Why would I want the news people? They are listening to the same scanner channels as me. As for the venue frequencies, well I guess they are interesting if you are there or live in the neighborhod, but in any case we are talking about a Pro-96, that is what the V-Folders are all about.qoatzecotl said:Only 38? You sure you looked in the right area? You looked at EVERY agency in the county?
I'm not just talking about Countywide agencies. I'm talking EVERY Police, Fire, EMS, Security and digital freq in the county. Throw in Coast Guard and other Federal freqs. Add FirstEnergy's system. Jacobs Field Security. Then, just for fun, add all of the news channels.
Look around a little, and you'll see how you can easily fill the radio. That's not even talking about SURROUNDING counties.

My point is that unless you are someplace like Los Angels, New York, Chicago, or maybe even Houston, filling up a bank with things that it makes sense to listen to is pretty hard. More to the poiint, in areas of dense public safety communications, it is not the amount of things that you can put in a single bank, it is the number of things that you can possibly listen to with any chance of keeping up.
Let me give an example using Houston, since I lived there and am comforatable in saying that it is considerably more involved than the Cleveland Metro area. Houston PD is so busy on all channels at the same time that if you scanned just the dispatch channels, you can't keep up with a single thing going on, so you end up listening to whatever district you live in and that is so busy that you can't expect to do anything except keep it locked on that frequency (dispatchers are relieved every 15 minutes or so). You need a second scanner to listen to the local constables and/or the proper county SO channel (if not two seperate scanners). If you want to listen to Fire/EMS that is gonna take another scanner. What I am saying is, the denser the area, the more likely filling up a single bank is not the problem, it is more like, having enough scanners and ears to keep up.![]()
JoeyC said:So what is wrong with opening up a 2nd or 3rd bank? Having 50 channels/bank (as opposed to 100) is a much more effective way to organize a scanner. In fact, if I had as many channels as you claim to want to listen to, I'd rather have 25 channels per bank! Makes for much easier to turn on/off different areas of interest.
