Hi all, I have been monitoring the king county system via the valleycom simulcast. I have been having issues with comms having alot of static. Even with my mag mount 800 mhz antenna smack dab in the clear of tukwilla Or federal way where signal should be strong. It bounces back and forth from being clear to being static when frequencies change.. Any ideas what could be wrong? I am using a Uniden 436hp scanner. Thanks.

1- Overloading?
2- Is the 'database' for King County current?
3- Does your Uniden have the missing capacitor/diode/whatever fix yet?
4- You need to update your signature line.

Valleycom has been sounding just fine up here in Redmond. Are you still having the problem?

Hey it's Jacob,

so I use a custom table when scanning valleycom. I live in Federal way and get usually great signal.

I also found there are some dead/static spots.

I have found that if you are near or next to a cell tower of any kind it will cause interference and poor reception quality. I can set you the customer table if you would like to try it out. I am also using the 436HP

Valley Com/King County

I am south of Tacoma and experience the same thing. I have improved the problem by isolating the site I tune into, there are many.

Hi,

I’m trying to pick up Norcom in North Bend. I programmed the King County/valley Com sim site under a MOT system on my analog scanner with the Norcom channels and I’m still not picking anything up. This isn’t a digital system is it?

The system is still analog. However I notice that the system is sometimes very noisy for me in the car from the North Bend area. What specific control channel are you locked into? Be sure you aren't trying to use the Snoqualmie or other smaller Intellipeater fill-in sites. For ValleyCom you should be using 853.4250 as a CC. If that is not working for you, try the main EPSCA site on 852.8875. Also make sure your scanner is using the rebanded custom table. It should have automatically downloaded if the data is being pulled from the RR database.

What is the rebanded custom table? I entered the data manually into the scanner

There is your problem I'm sure. 800Mhz Public safety trunking systems were rebanded some time ago. You need to manually input a custom table to define the new trunking characteristics of the system (I'll let you do the internet research on that topic). This step is necessary if you aren't downloading from RR. Look at thread #6 above and enter that table into the "Custom Table" settings of the system you created in your scanner.

Thank you! Is the polarity of the offset positive or negative? I'm not able to see the band plans since I'm not a premium subscriber

I have been listening to this system for ages. What you speak of is completely normal. In the South King County area the reception is spotty and is subject to cell towers being between you and the Trunking site. If you are stationary you can find good spots and leave the antenna or receiver in that place. Mobile that obviously isn't possible. I find that slightly less signal is better when mobile. If you are in the Kent area and the services you want to listen to are on the Kangley site, try tuning into that site, I believe it is labeled as Mcdonald Point. It is not simulcast so only services on that site will be heard. Best of luck.
