Will be spending time in Camarillo/Oxnard in the next couple of weeks, and I don't recall if CHPPERS ever made it up there to put in the new channels. What should I program for CHP these days? Did they ever put in PURPLE-2, or is it the legacy frequency still? And what BLUE is used there?

Look under State of California, CHP heading. Then look for the Ventura dispatch center.
All those listed should be good for you to program.
I can't monitor them from my location in Orange County to tell you if they are using Purple or Purple 2 or both as it is listed, I'm sure someone closer will post some better information regarding that.

CHP Ventura is still the old Purple - 42.400 Base 42.160 Mobile
42.400 is a dispatcher selectable mobile repeater.
Purple 2 Base 45.400 simultaneously transmits the dispatch of 42.400. No repeat of 42.160.
Purple 2 mobile 42.760 is inactive.
Blue is used very infrequently. Two weeks ago two chases coming into Ventura county from the San Fernando Valley were switched to Purple rather than Blue. They both ended in Oxnard.

Another frequency of interest is 154.695, a mobile relay located at an elevation of 235 feet sea level above Hwy 1 just below Mugu Rock. Its output is only 10 Watts. Its purpose is to receive mobiles along Hwy 1 below Mugu Rock and north of Ventura and relay them to dispatch. It also receives mobiles across the western Oxnard plain as well as Ventura. I live in eastern Ventura and receive 154.695 fine with a roof antenna.

Thank you ISCANVC2. I wonder if they ever put up the new BLUE up there? If PURPLE 2 Base is simulcasting with PURPLE, it must be at reduced power or from a hilltop further away from my place in the west SFV. I can hear PURPLE (sometimes just barely), but no PURPLE2.

Interesting tidbit about the 154 MHz channel!

FCC records list 45.40 with no license in Ventura county but KCX987on Oat Mtn a the full power of 120 W, the same power as other CHP base transmitters. It should boom in where you are. I have it on now, max bars, the same as 42.40.
As far as I know the new BLUE which would be Coastal BLUE 2 44.92 is not in use although I don't monitor it for a couple of reasons.
1. Since all normal traffic, including pursuits is on old Purple, I see no reason for using Blue 2.
2. As I said above, it's been ages since I've heard units on current BLUE, 42.34, or told to switch to any Blue.

Purple has transmitters on Oat Mtn & South Mtn. What setup are you using?

I an using a Pro-2055, PRO-2005 and PSR-600 with outdoor antennas (not VHF-LO). I am listening to traffic on Purple now, must be south mountain because it's not very strong. I am not hearing simulcast traffic on 45.40/151.4 CTCSS., and I would be able to hear Oat without an antenna, as I can see buildings on it from the front yard.
And agreed on the BLUE, as the few pursuits I've heard on the 118 going west never mention "switch to Coastal Blue". But here in LA, the Southern BLUE2 gets quite a workout.

I just ran a quick test. And this is wierd. I hooked up an external low-band antenna to to the PRO-2055 and put it on PURPLE 2. It comes in, OK signal, but hardly full quieting. then I heard one of the Moorpark units (54-79) check in with dispatch....he was loud & clear on PURPLE 1 (using Pro-2005w/ VHF-hi antenna), and the DS responded on PURPLE 2. I did not hear Dispatch answer on PURPLE 1. And then later sometimes i hear D/S on Purple 1 and not Purple 2. Looks like the only solution is to get a better antenna and listen to BOTH Purple 1 & 2!

I've never figured out how to do quotes on threads so I'll use quote marks.
" DS responded on PURPLE 2. I did not hear Dispatch answer on PURPLE 1. " There are several PURPLE 1 sites, they are not simulcast. The PURPLE 1 site dispatch responds on depends on the location of the mobile. The 54 Beat covers the eastern portion of Hwy 126 from Fillmore to the LA county, LOS to S Mtn. So Dispatch would communicate on S. Mtn., not Oat if 54-79 was in this area.

I can't comment on hearing PURPLE 1 & not PURPLE 2. I'll have to listen to both simultaneously to check this out. I have a roof discone feeding 4 scanners.
Sorry so late.

In the Northern Division, Red2 is what Redding lives on, but Red3 was part of the CHPERS plan and they stood up a Red3 transmitter on one of the sites (Tuscan Buttes). That Red3 transmitter I am not sure if it's patched in at the console, or if it's simply tied directly to the site's Red2 transmitter audio. Sounds like a similar deal with Purple/Ventura. I scan both, knowing Red3 is usually a cleaner signal (and more relevant to my home location) for me, but often a different Red2 site transmits, and the traffic doesn't come across Red3.

In short, Red2 is the original build-out for the area, and Red3 was going to replace Red2, but the project froze mid-way and now one or two Red3 transmitters are left in place and simulcasting whatever audio comes across that site's Red2.

For those interested, I can confirm via a reliable source in East Ventura County that Coastal Blue 2 (44.92) was used yesterday morning for routine traffic for a while. So it DOES work.

Coastal Blue was being used for awhile since the Green for Santa Barbara coverage was having issues and unusable. Blue is used as either a backup channel incase 1 of the main channels go down or for special events such as a protest.

Just hit reply and the website will give you the message with a "QUOTE=, followed by the member name, post number and member number." At the end a "/QUOTE" will show up. I can't use the command bracket character here, but substitute a bracket symbol for my quote marks in my previous two sentences. the right bracket and left bracket keys are just right of the P on your keyboard. Be careful not to delete the top "QUOTE=" or the bottom "/Quote" or you will lose the quote box you want to place in your post. Inside of those commands you can leave everything be or delete everything in the quote except for the sentence, several sentence or paragraph portion you want to refer to.

If you want to reply to more than one commenter in the same post, just scroll a couple lines below what you have written, go back up to the next post you want to reply to and hit reply again. It will then add the content of that post wherever you last had your cursor in the post you are currently writing.

Play around with hitting reply on someone's post and then hit the preview button on the bottom right of your post. Trial and error will lead you to be an expert at it.
