Hi everyone hope all is well.

I was browsing some stuff on the database and found this:

Because I use more than just my home patrol 2 for scanning I've noticed less traffic on certain FM channels and P25 audio coming through FM which tells me for sure county fire is using this p25p2 system I was curious how I would find it in my home patrol so I can listen to just what's listed on that link.

if this should be in a different category, I apologize, but I figured with it being California this post belongs in this category

Are you asking about conventitional channels or the p25 phase 'll system? All you have to do is enter your zipcode to scan it on your homepatrol 2 . Also are the fm channels now emitting a NAC? Hope I was able to answer your question

For the full history of the Ventura County Trunked System see
under Greater Los Angeles & Inland Areas Discussion

The system is still in the construction/test phase and right now is simulcasting Sheriff West Disp from VHF as ID 201 on Hall Canyon.

An update on Ventura County Phase ll. I spoke to someone that works for Ventura County Fire, and it sounds like they are going to stay on
analog VHF rather than moving to the Phase ll system. He said that since all of the neighboring cities and counties are still on vhf, with the exception of LA County and LA City that run UHF, all of those units still have vhf radios in the them for mutual aid.

That seems like a lot of cash down the drain. One would have thought this could have been considered very early in the planning stage, not late in the build.

Most of Ventura County law enforcement will be using the system, other than Simi Valley and Port Hueneme who are already digital. They have done testing, but have not been happy with the results.

LA Cnty is still on VHF & has 5 VHF Fire Ground Tac repeaters V1 thru V5 which are active on incidents beyond minor in nature. They put in a strong signal here in Ventura. For the last couple of hours there has been an incident in the Monebello area on V3. This spring/summer I’ve monitored brush fires in the Antelope Valley & along the I5 corridor.

Santa Paula got the letter from the DOJ and the bill from California that they had to go ENC. It was sitting on the desk with people that make decisions and they really didn't feel it was necessary but the letter said they must. What can you do when the letter says you must. Either keep your job or move on.

Well, there's plenty of time - you KNOW the DOJ isn't going to say a word to any agency that doesn't comply until AFTER CHP gets fully "E".

I find it interesting that every once in a while, some Phase 1 traffic is let out of the system. There was a talkgroup 103 active for a little while in the morning on Thursday 8/1 on P25P1. Otherwise my older PSR-600 just quietly scans thru the system with not a blip heard.

TG 103 is VCFD Command 80, a radio patch channel they have been using when Patrol 16 in Lockwood/Ozena/Hungry Valley is on a call and using CMD 17 or CMD 18. It allows units/dispatch with the trunked system to receive the radio traffic from P16's area back down into the greater Ventura/Camarillo/populated areas of the county.

Systems can be configured to use phase 1 or phase 2. It's kinda interesting.

This allows older phase 1 radios to use the system for compatibility. The system will normally default to phase 2 unless a phase 1 radio is also affiliated with the talk group. If so, it'll switch to phase 1.

Systems with low channel capacity can opt to "not" do the switch either by site or system as a whole.

That's very typical in California or they will patch a TG to conventional for mutual aid reasons aka fire season.

Most definitely needed in CA (already happens in most other counties in SoCal).
There's quite a few federal resources available to assist (or respond due to threats to FRA) that you would want them to have an avenue to give/hear size ups and communicate with local resources at least during the early stages of an incident.
