Hello to all in the group. My apologies if this is not posted in the correct forum......I have recently purchased the CE-86 software and a USB programming cable to program several VX-354 radios. I am having a heck of a time getting the cable configured properly in order to upload/download to and from the radio. I have installed the driver for the USB cable on my laptop, which runs on Windows XP. It is set up on COM 10, and my programming software will only let me use COM 1 and COM 3, or so I think. Those ports are already in use on my computer. Can anyone help me get this thing going? If I have left out any helpful details, let me know. Sorry for such a "newbie" question...................THANKS!

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey man, here how you can make it work. i'm using vista but it should'nt be any different for XP... here the general idea of how to make it work...
open computer management and go to the device manager
mine is listed under ports as prolific usb to serial bridge
right click and hit properties
find the port settings and the drop down where you can change to port. (mine is in advanced)
click the port you want regardless if it is in use.
click apply.
I've had to monkey with it in some cases but that works for me...

Does anyone know where I can get a download for the updated version of the CE-86 software? I am trying to program my VX-354 and everytime I try to upload or download it says turn radio on and then it goes to not responding, communication error. please help.

i am having the exact same problem, i have matched my com port in the windows xp system to the software port configure tab.
i can click upload and it seems to work but tells me wrong freq parameters, when i try to download it gives me the communication error msg,
i also have windows xp, and ce-86 ver 1

try rebooting your compuer with the cord attached. if that dorsnt work uninstall the software again. if you have to reinstall back sure you do so and do not have the cable plugged in until after the software is 100'% installed in your ststem at least thats what worked for me

They just recently increased their offerrings and have the latest versions, which are a bear to find anywhere else. They don't charge, but giving them something will show your appreciation.

Any better sources for downloading the newer 3.0 software? The link now charges $25 to register to download.
