To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am in the process of setting up a GMRS repeater using the vertex EVX-R70 repeater. In looking at the installation manual I see the pin-out for the auxiliary plug on the back. it shows pin connections for audio out, mic in, and PTT. does anyone know if there is a "control head" accessory that would have a speaker and hand mic input? I'm looking for a source or even a part number.

Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge they never made a control head accessory for the EVX-R70.

If you're running in Analog mode for GMRS, you should be able to hook up a Local deskset as an accessory using the backplane connections, and have something like an L3211 MC1000 desk set as a way to locally key & monitor the repeater within 500 feet or so.

Note: the Local deskset is different than a Tone remote, although they look quite similar.
