It does, thank you very much.

No problem. I now have 4 radio systems in my dept issued radio (Durham, VIPER, Cary, Wake County). I have to make sure my flashcode & radio has features for not only my home radio system but for the 3 mutual aid systems.

Gone are the days of only having 1 radio system in a professional grade radio. :)

Radios for use on VIPER

One other thing to consider when purchasing used radios.....

All used radios being placed on the system must have the latest firmware and must all be capable of at least 700/800 MHz operation. From Motorola's perspective, this rules out all Astro Saber, Astro XTS3000, Astro Spectra and Astro Spectra Plus radios since none of them work on 700 MHz channels. You will be asked to provide a copy of the codeplug for each used radio along with the Host/DSP code to prove that the radios have been upgraded.

So kind of related to this post and MHs response, which agency then becomes responsible for maintaining the programming of that (or rather the individual systems in that radio)? Also in Marshalls case I'm assuming his radio has a Durham system key, Cary, Wake and VIPER key so who's ultimately responsible for those keys with regard to programming and integrity?

Hope that makes some sense?

Each county or Federal Agency has a VIPER Point of Contact or POC.
It is my understanding (and correct me if I am wrong MH) that it is the local VIPER POC responsibility for the programming and maintenance of the radios. We stay in communication with our partner system POCs and the state to handle any questions that may arise. From the VIPER 2015 First Letter:

 VIPER provided each county point of contact (POC) or state/federal
agency POC with a block of assigned VIPER ID’s. Each county or agency
was also provided with a recap of any ID used during the first touch
programming in the event that their radios were programmed by
Motorola/HiCaps/EFJ, such that each county or agency had a starting
point for their respective radio inventory. VIPER POC’s are now
responsible for maintaining said inventory and will be required to submit
an annual “true-up” document to VIPER in January of each year.

 Moving forward, each county POC or state/federal agency POC will
submit to VIPER, a completed VIPER ID request form (same form as
previously used with the 4.1 system) to include the Radio Model, Model
and Serial Number, the Radio Assignment, the Name of the Template
programmed into the radio (if applicable), the Alias of the Radio and the
next available P25 Individual ID chosen from the block of ID’s provided
by VIPER.

Our partner radio system POCs know they can reach out to us anytime and we will respond ASAP with whatever info we can provide.

Davie TAC 1

I heard some traffic during the storm tonight on "Davie County TAC 1" on VIPER. They were also using the analog FG channels and "OPS 1." This is the first time that I have heard the FD On VIPER other than the simulcast of 154.370 MHz.

The Lagoon Viper Site (Bladen Co.) just came on line.

I need a primary and secondary control channel.

I know they have both 700 and 800 Mhz. frequencies licensed for this site.

Any help would greatly be appreciated

Thanks

joncleve: The reason why you're having trouble programming it to receive, and the reason why it's not in the database, is most likely because the site was never constructed.

State Highway Patrol will register frequencies for "planned sites" with the FCC, even sites that have fallen through.

Hopefully this is the explanation behind the site referenced in your post.

The tower was constructed last November and the antennas mounted. Someone suggested that this could be P25 phase II but that would be contradictory to previous reports that Viper would not have any phase II sites.

The site, as far as structure is considered, may very well exist. It may be a property owned by another entity which SHP considered for VIPER, but for whatever reason, the site was not a desirable location and therefore no antennae were installed. Also, it may be a future VIPER site.

Just because a site is registered with the FCC doesn't mean the site is active. A good example is Phillip's Knob in Yancey County. WQNQ261

Can someone tell me why this site has never been added to the database?

WQUU905 (North Carolina State Highway Patrol) FCC Callsign Details

I am having trouble getting this site programmed.

Thanks,

Jon

Hey Jon,
The main reason is that we need to know a Zone and Site Number before adding it to the database.
This is where you forum members are so valuable...we need what YOU find out about the zone (RFSS) and Site numbers so we can make sure the database is accurate.
We appreciate everyones help!

Again: there are NO P25 Phase II TDMA sites on the air on VIPER.
None.
Not a single one.

Also Jon I looked up the emission on that site and it indeed registered as Phase II TDMA. For the future perhaps?

Ok, I give up. I can see the tower, I see the antennas mounted, which by the way looks identical to all the other Viper towers in my area, and it's licensed to SHP. It is active with something because when I sit next to it I do hear data on several frequencies equally (with my antenna removed and the attenuate on) but it doesn't follow the normal CC protocol.

Joncleve: if you can wait a few minutes I will look at GIS records to find out who owns the property. Maybe someone else with more knowledge of researching the FCC database can cross reference the address of the site to see if another entity is on the tower.

Keep in mind, there are other 700/800 MHz entities that use equipment that looks like VIPER. Example would be Char-Meck.

Possible, but I had a gentleman who works the state EMS Viper Medical tell me last summer, that this site was definitely going to be an active Viper site.

Also another thing to keep in mind, I wouldn't take any word about future sites as concrete information until the site goes online because things could change at the very last minute that would cause SHP to back out from using a site.
