Also Jon I looked up the emission on that site and it indeed registered as Phase II TDMA. For the future perhaps?

Yes, the state is going through and adjusting their VIPER site licenses to allow for Phase II TDMA emissions far down the road but the system will remain Phase 1 FDMA for the foreseeable future. Any FCC License modifications for Phase II TDMA are housekeeping only, it does not mean that the mentioned site will switch to Phase II TDMA!!!

Hopefully this puts this matter to rest

Has anyone possibly considered that it might perhaps be a 700MHz site on the state license? Perhaps a gentle search from 771-775 might yield some information?

Ok, I give up. I can see the tower, I see the antennas mounted, which by the way looks identical to all the other Viper towers in my area, and it's licensed to SHP. It is active with something because when I sit next to it I do hear data on several frequencies equally (with my antenna removed and the attenuate on) but it doesn't follow the normal CC protocol.

It's a stretch but maybe if you can capture a few seconds of the data/audio you're hearing and post it folks may be able to help identify it.

I might can clear this up. I was on the west side of Charlotte the other week near the airport and did a search between 769 and 775 MHz on a 396XT. On 773.30625, there was a Viper control channel giving a site ID of Zone 2, Site 81. It was not listed in FCC database and there is not a site 81 in Zone 2 in our database here, but if site 80 is Shelby and site 82 is Sylva, I would bet that 81 is indeed the Stanley site. If some of you down there could plug it in, we can probably go ahead confirm it.

I have found that it is a good idea to do periodic searches in 700 MHz because there have been some changes to some various Viper sites recently.

Also there are at least 5 sites in the latest batch of VIPER licenses, 2 of them 700, and that new Stanly County Simulcast all in same batch from the last week's FCC approvals. The Stanly County VIPER site is in the campus of the Community College per the license. The 800 MHz licenses for VIPER are just those updates to add the P25 Phase 2 emissions for down the road. The 700 MHz are new.

Yes, that worked. The frequency 773.30625 is reporting site 02-81 and I am hearing traffic on it this morning. This is definitely Stanley in Gaston Co. My mistake was that I was working off of the FCC database frequencies that are listed for this site but none of them are the CC. Going forward, I will scan the 700 range for any new sites that may come up. Thank you KG4KHQ and to others who assisted.

Jon,
Please try to get as complete a list as you can of site frequencies.
Thanks!

To make this easy.

The call sign for Stanley is:

WQUU-905

This is a 7 channel site.

David

David,
We had that info (but thanks). I believe we are also aware that just because frequencies are in the FCC database does not mean they are used. We have seen many times where freqs change or get moved around due to co-channel interference. Having a trusted RR.com member personally verify what is being used helps make sure the database is as accurate as possible. Also the FCC database does not list what is primary/alternate control channels.
Not so easy after all is it?:D;)

Milf-You see anything about any new possible sites in Yancey County?

I will look back thru the data and see.. Anyone can get the weekly listing, put out each Sunday. I mainly look through the AR, TN, MS, IN, LA stuff, but then peek at NC, and SC to see what's crackalackin in licenses and changes. Its up to the folks in state to verify actual use etc. I just kinda point in the direction and say sniff it out. Unless I have an trip planned, then I make a few calls, and do some sniffing myself once I am within the golden 50 mile circle of my targets. :) (Yes, 50 is an bit far, but in those mountains, you can get very very lucky at altitude, and if you get an bite at the 50ish mile marks... Your gonna catch an fish once our in 20 or less!)

Milf- I don't mind a bit to verify. This site should be for a location in Burnsville, NC on Phillips Knob (presumably) if you look at one of my recent posts it has the "Cancelled" callsign and frequency registrations.

David -
Thanks for the information; you seem to be quite in the know!
Looking at your earlier posts, I was wondering if you at least have some hand in working on the system?

Just caught some traffic on TGID 6534 on the Hibriten tower.

Sounded like maybe some detention officers (radio numbers 218 and 210) asking where each other were. One was asking if the other was "in the control room". He responded that he was "out back".

I'm guessing that maybe this is either the Burke county jail or the Burke/Catawba Detention facility.

Not nearly enough info to submit, but I figured I'd throw it out there for the people monitoring Burke in case they want to try and monitor it to figure out since it is in their block of IDs.

60545 Federal Common 1 has been buzzing with activity this afternoon.

I don't know if it related to the shootings in Charleston SC. and the suspect being arrested in Shelby, NC.

All I heard was blocking a road off and checking a vehicle.

I have no idea where they were at all I know is they were on their Viper Talkgroup.
