Lincoln County Sheriffs have now lit their VIPER TG (28004) with simulcast of their UHF. There is about a 1/2 second delay and all units appear on the same UID: 1090088.
That goes along with the Fire dispatch simulcasting on 1090000.
The “com center” has been heard on TGs 1090001 and 1090002.
Denver’s Engine1 has the only “unit ID”: 1090136 so far.
Which county tower is Lincoln Co using.....there is not one listed on the RR page?

Your good time next year at least.
Remember, mode changes / modulation schemes only occur around April 1st. [emoji848]

East Lincoln is probably hitting the Stanley and Huntersville Viper Towers

North Lincoln is probably hitting both Anderson and Baker Mountains

Northwest Lincoln is probably hitting High Peak or Benns Knob

Southwest Lincoln is probably hitting Cherryville

Lincoln has a pending application for a Viper Tower near the center of the county.

Has not come on line as of yet

Hope this helps

Good evening everyone! I've got a VIPER related monitoring question. And please forgive me as VIPER isn't something I monitor or use on a regular/routine basis on any of my radios (XTS2500, 5000, G5, etc).

I'm down at Topsail Island on vacation and our house is in the Onslow County half. I'm able to monitor the Onslow/Jacksonville P25 system no problem. I also added the VIPER sites for Pender County because we would be frequenting both. The issue I'm having is my G5 showing out of range. I'm fairly confident I made an error during programming when adding two of the sites when it came to the RFSS & Site Numbers. The two sites in question are Penderlea and Scott's Hill. Here's where I think I messed up:

Penderlea: Site 49 (31)
Scotts Hill: Site 57 (39)

When programming I used 49 for Penderlea & 57 for Scotts Hill. I'm thinking I should've used 31 & 39 respectfully instead. Am I correct in thinking that? It's really not a big thing at this point because we're going home tomorrow and tonight is really the first time I've switched over to it. Majority of my listening has been for Onslow. I've attached a screen shot from the DB of the sites in question.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys have! (and sorry for being long winded LOL)You_Doodle_2018-07-21T22_13_25Z.jpg

Yes when programming sites you must use HEX not DEC like you did. Change that and it should work correctly that is if the rest of the programming is correct. On a side note don't talk about NAS on RR. Other site are available to you for those discussions.

Thanks for the reply. That was my suspicion. I didn't realize the characters in parentheses were HEX. I use HEX values when programming my G5 for TGID'S, etc. I just didn't realize that's what they represented.

On another note, where did I say anything about NAS/Non Affiliate Scan? I'm well aware that's a sensitive subject here and that there are other forums for that, several of which I am a member of. I've been a member of the boards here for over 12 years so I'm fairly well versed on what flies around here and what doesn't. I've watched that dead horse being beaten over and over and over again here.

Was it because I mentioned my XTS2500 & 5000?? Only thing I ask is before assuming that's what I meant when I mentioned those is to ask first next time if you're curious or may think that's what they're being used for. I'm the Chief for a public safety agency in Rowan County. I am an authorized user of the Rowan County/City of Salisbury P25, VIPER P25 , & UASI P25 systems with vaild, active ID's on all three systems, and have been a valid system user for the last 24 years in Rowan County. Actually on the way to Topsail Island Wednesday evening I witnessed a head on accident in front of me and used SW CALL to call it in because I didn't have a cell signal where it happened. The 2500 is a portable I bought and is my day to day radio. The 5000 I referenced is my department issued portable which is also a device that has a valid and active ID on those 3 systems as well. Both of those radios were programmed by the City of Salisbury Telecommunications Dept (radio shop). I never once mentioned or hinted to the idea I used them for anything otherwise.

Being a day to day user of these systems I have not ever, nor do I today, support the idea of using radios to do NAS simply because there's to much chance of something going wrong that could cause someone else's radio to fail or operate improperly.

I'm not trying to be an a$$ but I'm just not fond of jumping to conclusions. I've said it time and time and time again here on RR, and several other boards that if all you're wanting to do is listen to by a scanner, or recently one of the G-Series Unication devices (which I also use day to day for Quick Call 2 paging).

Do you feel better now? Just checking, your fingers must be tired. 99% of the time when people reference Moto gear and trunking systems it's for NAS. Like I said hope you feel better. Your on vacation if i were you I'd go have a drink. Sounds like you may need it.

Seriously? I wasn't trying to be an ***, just asking you not to assume. What I said wasn't an attack on you or towards you. And I agree on the 99% thing when it comes to Motorola as well as other manufacturers on the NAS stuff. I can't tell you how many threads I've read or seen where someone is asking how to program something for NAS, how to hack CPS to bypass an ASK, and all that other stuff.

On one hand it frustrates me when I see threads asking because if they'd bother searching there are step by step instructions out there, on the other hand it scares the crap out of me because some of these folks make it blatantly clear they have no idea what they're doing and the chance they're taking which could cause a life or death situation if a valid user needs help and can't get it because some jackwagon has caused the system to freak out. One thing we did in Rowan when the new P25 system went online in 2014 was password protecting the codeplugs as well as hitting them with an ASK. About 7 days or so after the cutover someone in a neighboring county cloaned one of our county fire APX6000's radio, ID and all, and it caused some a few issues but luckily nothing major.

Going back and rereading what I posted I can see how the tone of the message kinda read like I was trying to be a smarta$$. Again let me apologize, I really didn't mean it like that. I just didn't want to be lumped in with that 99% crowd and folks that may not know me on here think I was trying to be whacktastic (that's a word right?) lol. I hope you'll accept my apology and we can keep moving forward.

(Unfortunately we're headed home, but I could definitely go for a drink. Not long before posting that last night we had a personnel issue and I hadn't been off the phone long when I typed that. Again, I'm sorry you caught the wrath because of someone else)

Apology accepted, we all have things going on in our lives. I'm going to shoot you a PM also.

You too Sir, I sent it as an email instead. Talk to you later.

I appreciate that brother. I'm actually climbing into bed so I'll take a look at it in the morning. Have a good night!

Macon County on VIPER

Macon County continues to convert its public safety units to VIPER. So far, it appears that the conversion of all EMS mobile units is complete. Of course, Dispatch/911 can now communicate either on VIPER or the conventional channels it has used previously - and still uses for certain mobile units. Additionally, certain Macon County Sheriff mobile units have now switched to VIPER while others remain on UHF (460.3125). A summary of the VIPER UIDs in use so far is shown below:

11300** - Various Sheriff, EMS, Dispatch
11420** - Macon County Sheriff units
2077*** - Macon County EMS transport units

I readily admit to not being knowledgeable about posting on Wiki so if somebody could update the master list of VIPER UIDs to reflect the above, I would appreciate it.
