I am going to be visiting Williamsburg for the weekend of Dec. 1st for the "Grand Illumination" and wanted to program the scanner with Public Safety for the area and maybe some general colonial williamsburg frequencies.

Can anyone email me some local files for my 396T and maybe suggest what TRS systems to download from the DB.

I assume I want the JCY/Willaimsburg system everyone talks about? Anything special I need to know about it?

lemish,

Yes, you will need the York/JCC/Willamsburg system. Be prepared for a lot of encryption.

Other systems would be to load the VA STARS (statewide public safety, but it does have issues with reception with any scanner). I'd also look at the Bucsh Gardens and Colonial Willamsburg systems.

If you are staying at the Great Wolf Lodge, load them up.

If you plan to tour a bit, then the National Park Service might be nice. Also the Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center. None of these are really all that active, but interesting if you are there.

I've got STARS working.

Do I need to know anything special with the York/JCC/Willaimsburg system?

Whats on the private system run by Gately two-way radio company?

Does anyone have a single file of a system for NPS I can load? (I have a 396T.)

Thanks,

Lemish,

Not sure what the Gately folks cover.

NPS here is two frequencies

167.15000 RM 1 Colonial National Historical Park - Police APCO-25
168.42500 RM 2 Colonial National Historical Park APCO-25

If you come far enough south in your travels, you may want to load in Newport News. My 396 does not pick them up until I get close to Busch Gardens.

Thanks.

I know the Gatley folks from ham fests up here - just wondered who they had on air.

Thank again,

When you load the York/JCC/Williamsburg, only load the police and fire for Williamsburg, James City and York County. The Campus Police for William and Mary is 100% encrypted. York County Police and Fire have about 30% encryption. Williamsburg and James City County have minimal encryption. JC Fire simulcasts on 154.355 MHz (both sides of transmission). The rest of the systems are really not worth monitoring. Examples are: school bus, water works, county administration, Kingsmill Security (100% encrypted). The local amateur repeater that has wide coverage is 146.76 MHz. It covers from just east of Richmond to Norfolk.

anyone know why william and mary is always encrypted compared to the others? maybe they know that wm students would be smart enough to figure out digital scanners :)

its gonna take alot of the fun out of it if i transfer there in january (still debating about a different school since my interest is criminal justice and wm doesnt offer that- i would just do government or something instead)

It's just the Campus Police that runs encryption. If you have a burning desire to listen to housekeeping, student activities, athletics, catering, facilities, etc.....they are not encrypted.

If your interested in a career in law enforcement at the Federal level......major in a foreign language (Chinese, Russian or Arabic) and minor in accounting. You'll be first in line for a job.
