To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

First photo compares the two mounts--top is quick disconnect and the lower with belt clip. The quick disconnect when all assembled and using molle clips to attach to one of my battle belts puts the holster about 1 5/8 inches from my body (back of belt). The belt clip setup puts the holster about 5/8 inch from my body (back of clip).Second photo is of two battle belts with left one using belt clip and right one molle plus quick disconnect mount. I will probably use the quick disconnect setup on my right side (can swap in pistol) and use belt clip to add radios anywhere else on the belt.
I tried the molle clips plus quick disconnect (blade tech) on one of my chest packs and the radio sagged away from my chest enough to get in the way. I can't really use molle clips alone on my chest pack because the radios would be vertical (antenna up nose). With quick disconnect system you can change the angle to point antennas off to the side but the stand off distance was too great. If I was wearing something stiff like a plate carrier (if you see me wearing a plate carrier then none of us should be there!) then it would probably work but I would much prefer radios on side of plate carrier cumber bun area as is usual case.
The zero9 kydex holster design (channels for mounting screws moulded in) will always prevent mounting radio tight to the body the way a fabric/leather case with belt loop or built in clip can. If you are accustomed to standoff from carrying a duty weapon and other gear then you will be at home with zero9. My battle belts keep everything solid to my body and nothing bounces if I run (If you see me running then you should run too....) or move in and out of vehicles. As poster above mentioned about friction retention, I don't strap in radio when working command post or other highly civilized area so I can quickly snatch out radio and sit it on desk etc. In rougher conditions I tie down radios and when stationary/seated for long periods I just remove my battle belt (takes 2 seconds to remove, maybe 6 to attach because of aligning battle belt to inner belt going through my belt loops) and hang is over chair or something.

During Helene I was at Western command so not stomping around down range or riding choppers. I carried an APX & VP which was fine until sitting in any chairs with arms—standoff made me too wide and I barely have enough a$$ to keep me upright in a chair. Outside running cables and standing up antennas the rig was fine and secure. In a situation where you are running a loaded battle belt (weapon, mags, knife, ifak etc.) the Z9 integrates in well. The shock cord keepers would actually cut through the VP rubber armored knobs. Made me rethink rubber clad knobs period.
In general I don’t like the standoff—closer to body would be better for me. Bright spot was not being poked with antenna or deforming it. If Z9 didn’t have channels for screws it would have met my standoff requirement.
With 3,400mah battery it worked fine and enough retention for anything short of combat without using cord—exception might be accidentally pulling it out by tangled RSM. So removing and replacing the radio is quite good. With the slim 2000mah it just rattles around and needs cord. I don’t have the newer 11 battery. I actually often use the 2000’s because I can buy oem for super cheap ($9 each). Big batteries are $60-150 oem. I’ll go for 11’s once they go below $100 or so.
What I want for office is a case that stays on radio and has its own supper duty easy open spring clip and protects radio from scratches and drops(padded on bottom corners).
For now I will keep using Z9
