If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Any idea if Call ID list works on vhf conventional on the VP8000's. Was going to use it to provide alias's for mdc1200 IDs but it doesn't seem to work. The rx radio just displays the assigned radio ID of the TX radio and not the alias.

The system MDC call list is in hexadecimal. Convert the radio IDs to hex before entering them. Yes, it's annoying.

Not knowing what you're using to send MDC, I'll mention that there seems to be some variability in what's considered a valid MDC-1200 ID. In hex terms, the restrictions include:
  • 4 hex digits 0-E
  • 0000 is invalid
  • No F in any position
  • No E in first position
  • Some 8xxx values may have special meaning to some systems

I can confirm it works on VHF conventional. As others have said, make sure radio is in HEX mode when you create the list.

Armada is in "D" mode when I made the list. So, with radio ID 0001, in the call list I made the alias E-1 for radio ID 0001. The radio still displays "ID: 1:"

I put a little delay on the pre-TX, so the MDC tone could pass through the repeater, so I wonder if that is affecting anything.

It's puzzling that the ID field allows 6 hex digits with a max of FFFFFFh (16777215d), not 4 hex digits with a max of DEEEh (57070d). The wording makes it sound like it's an individual call / contact list like that used in DMR, but I don't know that MDC-1200 is supposed to support that. I've only seen it used for a fixed PTTID (per personality at most granular). I wonder if there's a gap here.
