Wake County Fire

I have tried and tried to make a file to have Wake County Fire on a bank by itself. I have read and read, tried and tried. Can anyone make me a file for ARC96 with Wake County fire groups with ops and tac channels and the VHF dispatch, 1 bank with WSO, and bank with all other talk groups. I can make it work, But off the files here, I get everything else. When trying to do talk groups alone for Wake County Fire, I do not know what frequencies to use with them so I do not pick up all other traffic. I have a RS PRO-2096 scanner. I downloaded the Win96 program, and looks more complicated than the ARC 96 program. I don't mind buying either. I have followed Marshalls instructions. I am pretty good with computer stuff, but this one is over my head I guess.

I don't see the left window in WIN 96 to enter 2 different frequencies. I must be missing something. The I don't see where to add talk groups like in ARC96. Thanks

As a premium subscriber you should be able to easily import any Wake County Trunked
system info into any current software platform. I don't use ARC96 as I have always found Win96 easier to use but I would assume it has RR Import capability.
I have attached a Win96 file that has Wake FD Alert/Dispatch/OPS/PS TAC talkgroups imported from RR. Took me about 5 mins to make it

Marshall, Thanks for file and help. I see how you put the info in and I have a better understanding of how to enter the talkgroups.. However, I am still getting Police, WSO, etc. MOT 36016, 40256,40048, 36368, 28752 that are not listed in the trunk group info. I guess I may have to lock them out as they pop up until I just have the fire talkgroups left on my scanner. I will keep experimenting now that you got me started. I will purchase the WIN96 program since it does be eaiser to use. Thanks again.

Marshall, I got this. All I needed was a jump start and a few hours of trial and error. Apparently one of the frequencies picked up some other agencys. After locking them out, uploading scanner, a bit of copying and pasting to the other banks, adding what I wanted to hear in the banks, it all works. No where on RR I have seen the frequencies that you need for a particular talk group which would help a lot. This is where I got lost at because you have to pick at least one, and that may or not be the only one you need for that group unless I missed something..

By making all the frequencies available to anyone who needs to talk over the air, the efficiency of the frequencies increases.

The reason why you are hearing unintended users, such as law enforcement, on the frequencies, is that you likely are using the 2096 in "search" mode, rather than "scan" mode. Switch to "scan" mode, and you will only hear the talkgroups you have programmed and enabled.

Jeff is 100% correct. In my rush to create the software file I left the bank in "Open" mode instead of "Closed" mode as seen in the red box below:

With the Pro96/2096 if the bank is left in "Open" mode then you will hear all non-locked out Talkgroup activity. I should have checked the box for closed mode.

WendellFire: Re-download the original file above and try it as I have now marked the bank as "closed". You should only hear radio traffic from the talkgroups in the scan list.

Thanks Jeff, I have been using it on scan. Glad to know another user also has this antique out there for help. I bought it when they first come out and is a great scanner but never programmed the talk groups because had a friend doing it for me.

Marshall, right on the money. I checked the box to "closed" and it works great. Only the talk groups in the scan list are active now. Thanks again.

I am learning and think I got a pretty good handle on it thanks to the great help. Hopefully I can repay the help to someone one day.

Great forum. You guys keep up the good work. I still got a lot to learn and I do read first as I have learned a lot from other post.

Steve - The Pro 96 is one of those scanners that, 13 years after Radio Shack introduced it, still holds its value and performs well for many monitoring requirements. Although my 96 is not in regular use anymore, I still use it occasionally as a back-up on a couple of local systems, and wouldn't consider getting rid of it (I bought it new in 2003).

As someone mentioned recently in another thread on this forum, the 700 MHz frequencies are now being implemented around the country, including about 12 trunked sites on the Viper system (the last time I counted). That's out of about 230 sites, but a few of the 700 MHz sites are in your area. The Pro 96 cannot trunktrack 700 MHz.
