• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I see it's still fashionable to bash Walmart with their radios. Have none of you yet used your radio knowledge to sit outside a brothel along the interstate and tell the ladies they are violating the FCC guidelines by soliciting on CB? If you're real lucky, perhaps someone will swear on the Taco Bell frequencies. Maybe you can find a small town hospital that uses GMRS to communicate on the grounds - that would be good fun, huh? And righteous too!

This thread, all 158 posts of it at this writing, is an excellent example of how people can be taught to "hate". I dislike the term - I dislike the way it's evidenced here, but it darn sure exists and you folks are proving it. You're soiling the very thing you ALL purport to enjoy and respect to wallow in it.

Wake UP! Unless you can name ANY other business you have or would hold to the standard you're setting for Walmart, stop it.

Wait.... You said brothel ! Where? Tell me now!

I know someone who knows someone who's cousin's boyfriend's best friend's neighbor "accidentally" made a cross band patch between 154.6 and the local fire dispatch frequency while sitting in the parking lot of a certain fast food chain eating his lunch.

Just a harmless prank, right?

Lol, Well I have a confession to make. Many years ago after purchasing my first dual band radio, I accidentally cross banded our local (spicy) taxi channel to a local 2m repeater! :(
The area hams were not amused...

Yea, I was messing with mine about a decade ago and crossed Phoenix fire dispatch with a 2m repeater. Whoops...lasted maybe 30 seconds.
Back on topic, when you're on private property, you agree to follow their rules. Otherwise, you're in the wrong.

Nope, most are using motorola cls and xtn's which are a far cry better than the import china junk.

I was just stirring the pot so to speak. I do wonder why such a large company would not just get their own net though.

What is blatently apparent is that the FCC regs are complicated and leave too much grey area. How much time do we spend debating which radio is ok on what band, who can use it and when. Just not clear enough IMHO.

How did you do that? Are you talking about a 2/440 HT? The HT's now of days don't allow you to transmit out of the ham bands.

and this is the ONLY thing relevant. Radio use, FCC rules, et al have no relevance when a private property owner enforces his/her rights as such. If you don't agree with the policies, don't go there.

The radio issue is pretty moot. If you were off their property, they have no authority over what you do. But when you enter upon the premises of another, you are subject to their rules. and if you "Stand your ground" and get in their way, you are most likely going to take the ride and do the perp walk.

One's rights ends where another one's begin.

The Yaesu's and Icom's don't, but the Wouxun's, TYT's, Baofeng's, and other Chinese models do. Although since he said "many years ago" I don't think it was one of those and I don't think they support crossband repeat either.

I hear (from friends of course) that there's one on I-95 exit 73 in southern NC. It's called Cafe Risque. Ask for Brunhilde - she'll treat you right. ;-)

Gosh- a bit touchy aren't we?

Mr Tom, with all due respect-

not all Walmart managers are FRS/MURS/GMRS experts. 154.570 is probably Greek to him. All HE knows is, you xmitted on "their" frequency. Did it require a whole lot of effort and letter writing? Gee whiz. You could have giggled and said "all right, but just so you know, you're on a PUBLIC frequency.." or something to that effect, as long as it doesn't embarrass teh guy. Since when did every single aspect of human interaction require the use of letters to the Editor Manager CEO and the whole world. Move on...

Unbeleivable experience today! I went to Wendy's drive thru, and the kid didn't THANK me. What is the world coming to??

Tom, why not just go up to the manager and tell him you're leaving a happy customer? Or tell the cashier? Why did you broadcast it throughout the store?

As far as the manager is concerned, he's dealing with a lot of people doing stupid stuff all day long, and you might have been the tipping point. Then again, maybe he didn't feel your little debate over the transmission was worth his time - I know I wouldn't. Besides, we are only hearing one side of the story, which ALWAYS makes that person sound like an angel. Try asking the manager his version.

Whats more fun is going to the local Sam's club where they use 154.600 no PL as the store channel and having an XTS5000 FPP and MDC under your hockey jersey and key it up a few times. They love it I hear!

This is just so sad. The OP obviously did this to provoke exactly the reaction he got. Arguing that he's just saying Thanks and Goodbye is simply petulant and childish. How about you strip down to your shorts in the dressing room at the store. Then, you can argue about your 'right to shop shoe- and shirtless'. Complete asshattery and the rest of us should consider the fact that we're all being trolled.

Personally, I want his amateur license reevaluated. An amateur knows better.

After reading through all 9 pages of this thread, the above quote sums up the OP's actions perfectly. Enough already. GARY N4KCE

Well...yeah amateurs probably know better, but then again we're not all so stuffy and full of our selves that we don't know how to have a little fun by playing "out of the box" of conformity! Are we right in doing so? No, probably not but it's all good as long as no one get's hurt. Do we admit to it? Some of us do and some prefer to hide behind the conformity thing so which one are you?
