Today local rumor is that Walker County, Huntsville, ETC went E. Anybody else monitor WC? I was told they switched to their secondary talkgroups (clear), then reports of radios stopping on tg's, but not unmuting.

As of 6am 05-23-24 I have observed the following:

Walker Co SO - Dispatching on Dispatch Channel 2 Encrypted ( not hearing anything of the primary channel)
Huntsville PD - Dispatching Encrypted
SHSU PD - In the clear
Walker Co EMS - In the clear
Walker Co FD - In the clear

I know Walker County Central Comms was having some radio problems the last couple of days, but trying to find out if this is a temp situation or if the county and city decided to flip the switch. There has been very little traffic even on the encrypted channels since midnite.

Looking at the node's there was activity on the S.O till 9:41 last night it shows a few hits after that at different times but sounded like a radio Trying to key up but nothing heard, could be they are indeed experiencing radio problems, or I could be they have taken a page out of the Montgomery Co S.O play book and decided to go E , but only time will tell I'll check nodes occasionally today and see if anything changes as I'm sure other's monitoring will do so and post it here I hope they haven't gone E

I know the Comm Center was having trouble on So and the PD yesterday afternoon. I also suspect that they switch to the Disp 2 channels till they get it figured out. At least I hope so.

Walker Co Disp 1 back transmitting but also Disp 2 is still being used. Huntsville PD still TX on Disp 2. Guess they are working on the system.

Maybe they tried to switch primaries over to full time E and realized not everyone had the right keys? I sure hope it was just a test run. I’ve listened to them when I’m in town since 155.730 and 155.895 in the 90’s

As of 3:45pm 05/23, Huntsville PD still dispatching on Disp 2 (encrypted) only, Walker Co SO is very rarely even transmitting on SO 1 (clear) or SO 2 (encrypted) there has to be a problem in the console. Only FD and EMS seems to be going out. Walker SO 1 worked for about 10 minutes or so and seemed to have died. Then SO 2 seems to not be working.

Thanks everyone. I guess we'll all have to wait, see and keep monitoring. Others locally have reported the along the same lines as you all have posted above. From what everyone is observing, this activity could translate to either console issues OR ironing out rolling out E.

I went through the nodes for Huntsville PD, there hasn't been anything new loaded for hours, however what I did hear from the past nodes, a PD unit asking the dispatcher his he was on the right channel and the dispatcher replied negative , the only thing after that was only one unit, 211 talking to dispatcher for the next several hours, leading me to believe that one unit had not switched over to channel 2 and the reason is probably and I hope I'm wrong but will be using channel 2 from here on out as the new encrypted dispatch channel

Not good news, but good info says that they’ve both moved to full time encryption on their CH 2’s, leaving CH 1’s open for interop only. Big bummer. It won’t get any better until citizens start demanding change with their local officials. Walker county taxpayers would have to be the ones in this instance.

There are not any nodes listed for Walker county SO channel 2 so I don't know if there is any activity on that channel or any of the othe SO channels maybe someone in that area monitoring can let us know about activity on those channels

I now live in Galveston, Texas city PD recently did the same thing here , switched from their PD 1 channel that was in the clear to PD channel 2 encrypted, so now when I monitor Texas City PD 1 I will on occasion here DPS asking for a wrecker of asking if a PD unit can meet with them at a certain location.
Now I have heard Texas city PD on the TXWARN interop channels conducting surveillance with other agencies and making arrests and traffic stops , I'm not sure what TXWARN zone Huntsville is in, but monitoring the interop channels you might hear them on some occasions, or perhaps the East Texas interop channels

I Just got confirmation from my radio tech buddy. Walker Co and Huntsville PD both flipped the dispatch channel to #2, but will keep #1 clear for inter agency use. Only Fire and EMS in the clear for now. Another one bites the dust

If you are 100 percent positive with that information you should probably submit that to the R.R Walker county database or TXWARN database so others know

SHSU in the clear? In the late 80s, early 90's SHSU sometimes used DVP on their simplex VHF channel as I recall. Too bad the use of such technologies was the exception instead of the norm as today.
