That depends on what you want. If you're looking for a reasonable range there are plenty of them. If you're looking for 5 miles reliably, something that uses a repeater, and that's not one of those cheapie "$30 for 2" bubble packs.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8530/5.0.0.973 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

To give a decent response, we would need to know what distance you want to use the radios over, if you are licensed for any radio service, the type of terrain, etc...

A simple question like that deserves a simple answer - get yourself a cellphone.

I'd imagine that these would need some sort of contract/monthly service for the repeaters service/use?

Only if you don't own the repeater(s). They don't even need repeaters to work but certainly can as that extends the range greatly. They aren't cell phones, that's for sure!

Nicely loaded for $5300...less than the Motorola and with all three bands in one. The APX is only for /\/\ fanboi's and those who legitimately need Smartnet trunking in a dual-band radio.

Also...what country are you in? I believe you may be a UK resident, so license-free chunks of the spectrum will be different than they are in the US (where it seems most of the replies you have received are from).
