• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

There's no shortage of FCC NOV's that show some hobbyists are not able to be trusted. They'll interfere or transmit where they don't belong, then start whining about encryption. Actions have consequences.
And always will.

They keep the new curves locked up and people sign them out. Be nice if someone could get that code.
Interesting, that might suggest the old days of equipment making it to ebay on a regular basis could slow down, and especially since the new phones assigned. When I left the company they had the fastenal lockers but the utilization was abysmal. Market manager said the only way any new purchases were to be approved was to show we were keeping track of equipment and associates to be held accountable for anything they checked out. I'm going to guess salaried management is still issued their own as was when I was there any salaried had their own equipment they took home.

That may be a blessing. At one time or another, all of us have done something worthy of prison time if stupidity was against the law. And, at 81, some of us have had many more opportunities than others.
As a kid, my dad used to tell me " IF you're Going to do something Stupid, at least do it Right" !

Here is real reason: MSN Analog RF causes issues with the RFI, and IoT system.

I have noticed that the Walmart stores in Southern California appeared to be using digital radios now, possibly Motorola. No, it appears that all of the Walmart stores in Las Vegas are now also digital radios, and the call buttons at all of the lock ups are transmitting digital audio. Not sure what frequency these are on, or what modulation method or if they use frequency hopping.

Just from a cursory glance, it appears that they are using the 900 MHz frequency hopping Motorola product.
Looks identical to the DLR series Motorola radios. The DTR radios have the same hop groups in addition to a scan feature. Unless Walmart had the DLR’s custom programmed with a unique hop set in which case a DTR setup to scan all 50 preprogrammed hop sets would be unable to intercept their comms.
In test we determined the DTR with LOS (line of sight) were able to communicate up to 11 miles. But in most environments the ranges varied between 2-3 miles. They are amazing radios for secure and somewhat private comms with a low probability of detection, IMO.

Constantly catching who is taking a bathroom break or needing to carry out a pickup order here on about 3 different FRS channels and I even did a tone search on it. It definitely isn't MURS, and it's seemingly standard FRS frequencies they've got where I'm at. Don't know when that happened.

I’ve been following this thread since it started. One of my dual band radios has GMRS, FRS, & MURS in it. Came that way. The local Walmarts have always been on 154.57, or 154.60, even after others have said “they’ve moved“. yesterday I was there without my radio, but heard the store radio as the employee walked by. Didn’t see the radio, but I was hearing digital, not analog, so maybe the local store got new radios. I’m in Palm Beach, Florida.

It seems the Cartpushers at Some Walmarts are using Frs or Gmrs freqs on simplex to talk to each other, while getting their directions from CSM's on the main Walmart channel. They were doing this at my local Walmart last year during Thanksgiving and Black Friday. It'll be interesting to see what they do this year, since most stores seem to be using 900 mhz. radios now.

I can't wait until we get a report on the radio usage of every store in the chain in the country. I'm told there are 4600+ of them. By the time we hit 2000 (if we haven't already), we'll finally realize that there's no rhyme or reason to their communications.

IF you possess a sense of humor, then you'd know there Are some pretty funny things that are said on the air, between employees and management and even customers from time to time. But of course, if you've never worked in retail or don't get a chuckle from things said in that environment then I see why it might be boring to you. I worked for Walmart for 5 years, as did my wife so I saw and heard things that made it interesting.

More power to you, buddy. Let me just say I've been in trouble too many times because of my sense of humor (frequently dark). There's no doubt that you'll get lots of chuckles. You worked there and there are probably a lot of "inside" jokes that you'll wet your pants laughing about but I'll be stuck with a deadpan face because I won't understand it,

Here and there
My understanding is the stores pay for equipment from their own local store income budget rather than corporate. I asked a store manager someone knows locally about things he said they got new radios. When I looked they are using baofengs on murs no joke with frs thrown in as well. I asked about other stores he said they have had problems stores elsewhere and went to something different in larger areas where interference was a issue. So while the employee may purchased a baofeng I know for fact the company itself is buying them in some stores.
It certainly isn't all the stores in Southern California. There are plenty that still use MURS. All of them near me are using (I'm assuming) employee purchased Baofengs and such. The only people with the real deal Motorola are the managers, and even some of them use the 'fengs.

I still have no idea what my local Walmart is using, but I'm still searching. I have Costco in scan, but it's mostly quiet. Costco does not have the same "problems" as Walmart often does. When my local PD was in the clear, I heard them responding quite a bit to Walmart.:)
