Waterloo Area Police Test

I'm fiddling with a live feed of the Waterloo Regional Police. Adding it to an existing web site.

I'd appeciate if someone with winamp could report on the Alpha Tagging results.

frequencies

Hi there lexx i also live in the waterloo region and am listening to the waterloo regional police via my bcd 996t but i'm not picking up the same frequencies you are... I was just wondering if you provide me with the frequencies you are using i got most of the frequencies off of radio reference.. are you using an antenna setup maybe that's my problem.... thanks alot lexx

Boy, I'm pretty much a beginner at all this stuff. I just stuck in all the EDACS frequencies (1 to 16) from this page http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=1783, and then all the police talkgroups listed further down the page.

On a different "system" on my BCD996T I did enter all the Fire talkgroups. As I'm playing and testing all this, I do sometimes have both Police and Fire streaming out at the same time from www.ykf.ca. Maybe that's what happened.

I am located in the Idlewood area of Kitchener if you know the city, so I'm not too far from the airport and the regional police centre near Costco. My distance from their antennas is not too far and I'm sure that makes a huge difference. I did make a 1/4 wave antenna with coat hangar wire from plan I found on the internet, and stuck it up in my attic. Hope that helps.

I've got a question now for you (or anyone else). In that list if EDACS frequencies from the link above, I notice all the frequencies start with 868.xxx. All except number 9. It's 866.4750. Do you think that's a typo, or is it possible to have all frequencies starting with 868 and just one starting 866?

The 866.xxx frequency is a valid channel, Industry Canada just issues them as they are available.

One thing I noticed is it seems the police only use LCN 1 through 9 and the other talkgroups use LCN 10 through 16. Anybody else ever notice that? I also noticed that is seems only the PD are true Simulcast on the system as it is hard to hear Cambridge FD in New Hamburg or Waterloo FD in Cambridge but all the PD talkgroups are clear no matter where in the Region you are. I wonder if the LCN rules are related to the simulcasting or not?

I have been talking to Lexx off list as I run the exact same stream exept mine is password protected. I might just pull mine and relay off his if he plans to keep it going or we might break it up into two separate streams with one being only Fire and the other only PD.

I'm out by Baden hill which is a repeater for the system & I was always curious why the township FD's & PD would come in clear but I'd have to be right in KW or Cambridge to pick up their FD's. Apparently they're only transmitting off of selected towers. Does anyone know more about that?
