Riding through Wayne the other day with my 436, and reception was hit or miss. One minute loud and clear, and the next minute garbled. Listening on a 996T in Verona with an outside antenna about 20 feet up, and it's perfect. Very puzzling. On the 436 it shows full signal. The 996T shows between 2-3 bars
Well, I guess I won't be buying a 436 any time soon.

I think your issues are indicative of simulcast distortion. When you're in town, you're being bombarded by the four sites at relatively equal levels. The farther out you get, you might only be picking up the closest tower.

Back before the change, two bars was sufficient for crystal clear reception from my job 20+ miles away. Unfortunately I changed jobs before this problem started happening, so I can't say if long distance reception changed. Maybe I'll take a spin by my old job tomorrow and see how I do.

Also... if it's not too much trouble, can you please bring your 2500 the next time you expect to drive through Wayne? If you don't have any problems with reception, I might look into buying one.

The same issue, simulcast distortion, is evident on the Bergen County Public Safety T-Band Trunked system, depending upon where you live in the County.

It has been reported that Midland Park PD & EMS, who use the system, have trouble receiving intelligible communications in 50% of their municipality due to the distortion factor.

I got sick of not listening, so I decided to turn on my scanner to see if anything has changed. Nothing has changed.

Using my BCD396XT, i was scrolling through the frequencies. If you're familiar with the Uniden, you know that you will typically get static on all channels but the control channel, which is silent and displays the system information. Interestingly, I heard faint two-way chatter over the static on 476.575. It looks like the frequency is also used by the Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System and Lancaster County. I'm pretty sure I'm not receiving transmissions from either of those, so it must be something else.

Could this be a result of another agency not operating on narrowband and bleeding over? Regardless of the cause, could this be affecting the performance of the Wayne system?

Looking back at my notes, it looks like the trunking system was utilizing 476.575 quite a bit, and I don't think the performance on that frequency was any worse than the others. So maybe it's a coincidence and a non-issue, but I thought I'd bring it up.

Sorry to resurrect an OLD thread.

2 things, 1 for me, also living in Ringwood, I don’t get any signal usually. Sometimes on a very nice day I’ll hear them in town.

For me to even hear them AT ALL even in Wayne, I had to turn that squelch WAY DOWN. I turned it down to 2, and it’s been rock solid ever since.

2, a problem here. I’ve been monitoring Wayne for quite a few months now. I have NOT heard a single EMS dispatch or any EMS chatter. In our RR DB it says “12555” is the EMS Dispatch.

I’ve been running ID SEARCH for the heck of it. I’ve been hearing a lot of other TG’s. Nothing EMS related, and 12555 hasn’t popped up once. Only one to pop up, and for one transmission was either 3001, or 3003, one of the Ops channels for EMS. Can anyone help me with this please?

There were some rumblings that Wayne was talking of going to NJICS awhile back due to issues.

I agree. I’ve heard that as well.

The Harris System is only a few years old, you think they’d get backlash for ditching the system so early?

Also, wonder what sites they’d affiliate to, or have built there. The closes site I’m aware of(off the top of my head), is the Ramapo site in Ringwood.
