Hi I have a few uniden scanners, HP2, 436hp, 536hp, sds100. When it comes to weather alerts, I'm a bit confused. If I'm scanning and there's a weather alert, will I receive it? The reason I ask is because there's a weather priority function that says it checks for a weather alert every 2 seconds when scanning. So does that mean even if the SAME codes are put in right, while scanning you won't get weather alerts unless you turn on weather priority? With weather priority off, under what circumstances do you receive an alert? And is it correct to say if the scanner is off you won't get an alert even when you turn it on? When I got the alert this morning it only came thru on my HP2 as the other ones were off and the HP2 was in weather standby.

I know the difference between those 2. You did not answer my question.
All of the info is in the links you were provided.

And is it correct to say if the scanner is off you won't get an alert even when you turn it on?
Seriously? It's a scanner, not a cell phone that checks with a server for outstanding sms and email.

Questions answered direct from aforementioned manual:
If I'm scanning and there's a weather alert, will I receive it?
The scanner starts scanning the preprogrammed weather frequencies and stops on the first good signal. If the signal is lost, the scanner resumes searching for another weather transmission.

Correct, weather priority needs to be set "on"

Weather Alert Priority Turning the weather alert priority feature on allows the scanner to check the weather channels every 5 seconds for a 1050 Hz weather alert signal and still scan or search. If you should receive an alert, you will hear a loud warbling then the weather channel audio.

No, the links do not provide the answers to my questions. I have read the manuals and easy to read manual front to back. Are you going to help me out and answer the question or are you just going to tell me to read the manual like all the other useless suggestions? I don't understand why you waste your time reffering me elsewhere when you simply could have just written the answer to my question instead. And yes I am serious. If cell phones can get their messages after turning the phone on then it's not a stretch to wonder if another radio communication device can do the same.

Preprogrammed weather frequencies? Again, that is not answering my question lmao. I want to know if I will get a weather alert if, say, I'm scanning my local P25 system with wx priority off. Yes or no.

You won't get that, because the scanner isn't set to scan the Wx frequencies. The scanner only receives when it is on and a frequency is in use. So, if the scanner is off, it won't have the ability to replay previous transmissions that occurred while it is off. If Wx priority is off, you'll only receive from the frequencies enabled in your favorite lists.

So I won't receive an alert scanning regularly? You only get alerts if you turn on weather priority?

Correct. Think of it in a different way. Would you receive your local airport/PD/FD if it wasn't scanning their frequencies? Scanners work on radio frequency and they can only detect activity if it's scanning those frequencies. Wx priority tells the scanner to stop scanning the enabled frequencies in your favorites list and check the Wx frequencies.

Of course, if you scan only weather frequencies you'll receive alerts.

Devices that transmit and receive may have the ability to receive messages if they register on networks or systems but scanners do not transmit, there for they do not register on a network when powered on.
