on the the 300 do you have to be on listening to the weather for the warnings to work. like tuesday we had tornadoes and it didnt pick up any warning while listen to police activity.i knew it was coming cause tv weather already said it. but no warning on my 300 .

I haven't played enough with the PSR-300, but with all of the other GRE scanners I've used that have had the SAME capability, you have to put the radio into the SAME monitoring mode to get the warnings with the correct text information.

On the Pro-96 (and probably the PSR-300), if you set the priority on with a weather channel being the priority, the radio will trigger on the warning tone. You don't get the specific type of message that you get in SAME mode, but it will activate an alarm.

Did you program the FIPS codes in your scanner for SAME (page 33 in the manual). I was going through the manual this weekend and realized that I hadn't done this yet.

You gotta set it up first. Havent done it yet on my PSR300 as it is not storm season. Winter storm activity is good enough on local PD/FD/HWY/DOT bands that I could care less about strike observers out of their usefull season.
