I heard through a source (whom I will not name, and who probably isn't trustworthy) that they may be ENC
Oh, and speaking of that, when I submitted to the database that Wood Co SO was fully ENC, I think I was wrong because I've been hearing just a little bit of traffic from their channel. It seems like they must've encrypted most of the radios but left a few in the clear. My apologies, I didn't mean to submit false information, I was sure it was fully E because I was getting nothing but E the whole time I was monitoring that day.

I talk to the fire and police chiefs regularly too and they didn't mention anything about encryption. Only thing I heard is they are waiting for Hancock county to update the cad system so they can switch to DMR.

I set it to partial ENC just now. Please don't hijack threads :)

Just bustin your bawls. I have no clue what will occur. I don't talk to anyone in Weirton associated with any of that.

I’ll get to the bottom of this very soon.

Time will tell. Who knows when the they will be online.
For now, just listen to your analog transmission and be happy.
Just—————— relax You’re acting like a kid on Christmas waiting for Santa 🎅

I have not seen any signs that Weirton Police has been using TG 2206 and 22XX are Brooke County TG'S. I would think they should be 23xx for Hancock County. They spent all that money for radios and a new DMR system a while back. It is hard for me to believe that that they would be moving to SIRN. Seems to me waste of money for Hancock County.

I have seen no sign of 2206 or 2280 active.
I have seen no sign of any radios affiliating with these talkgroups
At this point I'm not confident that they have moved to SIRN

I think more likely is that they keep their PD/FD system and use those talkgroups for Weirton PD/FD interop with Brooke Co via SIRN.

But I know nothing. And i have a feeling that the identification of those talkgroups involved from conjecture on the part of the submitter.

Weirton Fire and Police is still all analog. They were at one time testing a DMR system that spent money with a local vendor. This has been going on for over a year ago. I know that SIRN has assigned 2206 & 2280 for Weirton. That does by not mean they will be switching to SIRN.

Why buy a DMR system and switch to SIRN makes no sense.

The state has assigned Weirton talkgroups on both Brooke County 22xx and Hancock 23xx. The 2206 and 2280 is for future use and interop with Brooke County when working together as of now. Although there might still be a chance they go to SIRN, i am unsure. I do know and can confirm from the SIRN minutes a letter was sent to Hancock County Commission stating they can not use the funds given to them for a private radio system, as guidelines stat it has to comply with a interoperability radio system. So I am not sure what they will do moving forward.

Thank you for the clarification. Sounds like the left hand does not now what right is doing. This is very sad for the City of Weirton and Hancock County tax payers. They should of went with SIRN from the beginning and I am confident the right numbers of towers would been installed for any coverage problems.

As its been discussed previously, SIRN was going to install a tower in Wellsville/East Liverpool area that would give them full coverage in Hancock County, but that will not happen if they choose not to go with SIRN System.
