Did the TRS go down tonight?

They are definitely having issues today, very grainy transmissions, units complaining radios are losing the control channel. I know nothing about the GPS based simulcast, but it almost sounds like maybe the two towers are out of sync so they're hurting rather than helping each other.

It's been over 2 months now. Is WO actually using any digital talkgroups? I listen at all different times of day and have not heard anything.

The majority of all modern scanners will completely bypass ProVoice talkgroups on EDACS. The only time I saw a change in this was the way the PSR-500/Pro-106 handled I-calls (would pass the raw data stream - very annoying when trying to monitor Atlantic County with that feature enabled).

I heard WOPD doing radio tests this afternoon on TG 02-101 and they were referring to it as the "9-1-1 Channel". Is anyone familiar with this or know what it's used for. I've been monitoring WO for over 5 years and this is the first time I have seen TG 02-101 show up.

I have been living in West Orange and monitoring the TRS for the past 8 years. I noticed there are many talk groups in the database that I have never heard used - not even once. The list is below. Has anyone ever heard these in use? If not, I'm recommending we have them removed from the database (unless anyone disagrees):

Fire:

04-061 - Fire Training
15-155 - FD/EMS Alert (the West Orange volunteer EMS was disbanded over a year ago so this TG is no longer being used)

EMS:

06-021 - Dispatch (the West Orange volunteer EMS was disbanded over a year ago so this TG is no longer being used)

Police:

02-041 - Detectives D1
02-044 - Juvenile Aid Bureau (there is no JAB in existence in WO as far as I'm aware of)
02-083 - Crossing Guards (crossing guards in town do not carry radios that I have ever seen)

Services:

05-023 - Ops 2
08-141 - Buildings Dept.
10-021 - Sanitation/Health
10-041 - Sanitation/Health
12-021 - Parks and Rec (I have never seen Parks/Rec staff ever carry a radio)
14-036 - Llewellyn Park Security

Please let me know if you have ever heard these TG's in use. Otherwise I'm going to recommend having them removed from the DB to get rid of some clutter.

With reference to the above listed talkgroups to be recommended to be removed, I would disagree only on the basis that if they do exist in the radios, that they should stay in the database (even if they are not used). Also, someone should run Unitrunker and/or Pro96Com on the West Orange EDACS for a few months to see what talkgroups are in use and also affiliate and then monitor to see.
