They currently run first generation EDACS. They are spending money on this system just to keep it going. I think they are looking at other systems. Stay tuned!

Is there any chance W.O. will be moving to a digital system anytime soon? I'm moving there in about a month and my current scanner has died. If they are going to remain on the current EDACS system then I will just pick up a cheap trunker on Ebay.

Watching a West Orange council meeting about 2 months ago, they were discussing spending $150k for a new master controller for their EDACS. But they have also hired a consultant, to advise them on a new system. They even talked about keeping the EDACS and the "new" system running together. I know the police and fire departments are not happy with the present system. The may hook up with Montclair, who knows!!

Are the two new frequencies in operation yet? I have been monitoring the system for the past few days and I occasionally miss a transmission. I'm wondering if it's just because of bad reception or if the new frequencies are now being used. Would it hurt to program them into my scanner even if they are not being used yet?

West Orange is what I call a "money town". So they could possibly move to digital.

Is West Orange conducting some kind of radio test? I've been getting transmissions and the following talkgroups are lighting up:

00-001 (open carrier, no words spoken)
00-002 (open carrier, no words spoken)
00-005 (open carrier, no words spoken)
15-157 (I heard someone say "Radio repair testing 1,2,3,4,5")
Then on 15-157 a few minutes later I heard another agency reporting a car they were looking for "going into your town".

Edit: I just heard a police transmission that their main radio went out and they are running on backup units.

Talk group 15-157 is lighting up a lot today. I don't see this talk group listed in the database but it sounds like an inter-city hotline. They were just reporting a grocery store shoplifting incident in Ridgewood and now Burlington county is on talking about a missing person incident in Pemberton. Why would West Orange have this on their TRS?

Can anyone confirm the site number for West Orange? The DB shows the system as Site 1 but I'm getting reports that (a) the system advertises itself as site 03 and (b) that 853.325 is also a control channel.

It has been almost a year now since the app was granted for the 854.3125 and 854.3375 frequencies (according to the post above). I have never heard anything on these two frequencies. Anybody know what they are being used for, if at all?
