what is a Fireground?

Under a lot of fire frequencies, I noticed that they have frequencies for "Fireground"...I was wondering what this was.

In a nutshell basically after fire units are dispatched to a call and arrive on scene,they may be asked to switch to a fireground frequency.This shifts the units off the MAIN dispatch frequency leaving it CLEAR for other emergency's while the units on scene can communicate via FIREGROUND Freq.Fireground is where the incident is taking place & fireground freqs are the ones used to communicate there.

Fireground means the scene of the fire. The fireground channel is a channel for operating on the fireground. AKA- a channel for on-scene use.

Firegrounds are like Operations# channels, here it is called OPS# (Indy Fire), and for the townships outside the Indy Fire area they are also called OPS# as well. Some smaller departments use the phrase Fireground. When a fire is dispatched, it is assigned to a FG or OPS channel depending on where on the county map the fire is. Ex: Nw Side is OPS1, Ne Side is OPS2, so on and so forth, but not in that specific order. I have probably said things other members have alread said but I hope this helps.

They are called TAC channels here in Houston too.
