Yes, I have been pouring through tons and tons of antenna threads, articles, etc.

I still have not found exactly what I am looking for.

I would like to monitor Seatac air traffic from Everett. I did a straightline distance calculation online and it is just about 30 miles to Seatac.

The airband is about 120mhz. With these factors, it is pretty definite I need an outdoor antenna, or maybe an attic antenna? Or maybe it doesn't even matter?

I live at one of the highest points in Everett at about 625 above sea level.

When it comes to antennas and scanner stuff I am a newbie.

Thanks for any help.

antenna

Are you able to have an antenna outside or must it be inside?

I could put up a huge mast antenna, only limited by whatever city laws are, if I wish. The thing is I don't want to limit where I have to be in order to connect to my antenna and I don't want to set up any kind of listening place.

I am just using my portable scanner. I would like something that I can pull out, put it on the table or floor or maybe even in the garage and run a temporary cable inside. When I am done after an hour or so of listening, I can then put it away or something.

I did buy a snoop antenna in a silver pvc pipe off of Ebay for about $25 and it did increase my hits and number of power strength bars. It still is not good enough though

What is the goal of having your antenna set up? Are you just out of ear shot of a community you'd like to monitor? Just a little too far from the airport to hear tower and ground communications?
