Paul (or others if you can answer),

In reviewing the communications protocol I noticed that the SQL steps on the 996 have been increased to 19 from the 396's 15:

996: Squelch Level (0:OPEN / 1-18 / 19:CLOSE)
396: Squelch Level (0:OPEN / 1-14 / 15:CLOSE)

Do all of the extra SQL steps on the 996 fall in the theoretical space between the 396's 0 and 1 settings? If not how many would you say comparatively fall between the 396's 0 and 1 settings?

What I'm trying to determine is how much closer to open on the 996 can we get then we could on the 396 (without actually being open).

Thanks ahead,

Brian.

I can tell you this - the squelch in the 996 seems to work like a "real" squelch, although it is of course not.
I think you will be much happier than on the 396 - the SQ on the 996 actually works!
