On Wednesday 12/18 I drove up to R&R Comunications Inc., in Delaware, from Maryland to purchase my 500. The people there were very nice! Ironically there were three other customers from Md. (De. 0% sales tax). I would highly recommend buying from R&R. The owner also told me that they have ship orders all around the world. www.rrcom.com/rrcom.html

But don't tell me that you spent more on gas than on the MD tax.

N467RX I did spend more on the gas! I just couldn't wait to get it delivered. But it was a really good experience. And it just so happened that two other customers from Md. came in right behind me. Sorry Gov. O,Malley and your "Greedy" cohorts. BTW Md. sales tax is increasing from 5% to 6% on Jan.03.

http://www.scannersunlimited.com/ Give Glenn a call if you would rather do business with small business.
I went down there today and Glenn is sincerely a class act. Seems like a good honest man and certainly a gentleman.
He was very busy, yet took time with everyone that had questions. I was pretty easy...no PAR MON 3, no ST2, but I got a GRE 800 duck to try out. with a BCT15.

I will shop there again and give Glenn at Scanners Unlimited two thumbs up
Goose.

If you're in the S.E. Michigan area, Gary is now a GRE distributor.

Psr-500

I am pretty close to either ordering just a single GRE PSR-500 or possibly both a PSR-500 and a PSR-600 from Advanced Specialties. I like the fact that they include a DC adapter. Is it a Radio Shack DC adapter or is it OEM GRE? (Or do they even make a genuine cigarette lighter adapter?) Also, is there any additional price advantage to buying BOTH a PSR-500 AND a PSR-600 at the same time or is there no additional savings? Are they likely to have these in stock most places? Also, are there any other dealers that include a PD cord? I will likely buy the ARC500 software since it is on sale for one more day.

Are there any other accessories that I ought to be considering? I plan to use the PSR-500 in the vehicle clipped to a Clip Caddy on the dash. I hope that this has enough volume to be heard in the car at driving speeds. I assume that adding an external speaker might not help much because I seem to recall most manufacturers attenuate the audio so that it doesn't damage a persons hearing when listening through an earphone.

The other question is about battery recommendations. I believe the choices are NiCd or NiMH. Knowing that it will be used fairly often in a vehicle with a cigarette light cord, is one battery any better than another for that application or is it simply a matter of personal preference?

I realized that all I had to do was call the seller to get the info I needed -
I get lazier and lazier as I get older, although I like to think of it as becoming more and more efficient.

Another nod for Glenn at Scanners Unlimited http://www.scannersunlimited.com/

I have been doing business with Glenn since the early 1980's. I just did an order yesterday, a PSR-100 and antenna. Even though it had been years since I talked to him (I moved to Kansas 13 years ago) he still remembered me.

Ham Radio Outlet is Great!

I have bought a lot of equipment from HRO in Atlanta. Speedy service, no tax, and their web site shows it in stock.

They are great to do business with.
