The title should have said, "Where is the New M/A-COM Regional Network to serve Colorado?" but Where’s Waldo came to mind.

I know we have talked about this article before, however it bugs the hell out of me listening to the Fire the other night that Aurora and Denver were both working.

http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20657

When I read this article it cracks me up. I feel like I am reading a comic book.
Just a couple of things that made me smirk as I read them...

-System would provide at least 95% portable coverage,
-We wanted to be assured that we would have no interoperability
issues with adjacent jurisdictions.
-With so many EDACS users in the region, it
was only natural that they form a user group
to share information. “The Rocky Mountain
EDACS User Group was formed almost two
years ago, primarily to bring all the EDACS
users in the area together as one,"
-There are over 12 agencies involved, and
group meetings are held at a different agency
each month

So Aurora complains about coverage? Heck they only wanted 95% portable coverage. Seems to me they got want they wanted.

What frustrates me most is that the major metro agencies do not use each other’s systems in time of need. There needs to be a mutual aid group is created for each EDACS trunk in the area. How easy would it have been for Denver to switch their radios to the Aurora system and talk on Public Safety 1? The fire would have been knocked in no time with them working together. But why they worry about patches and the Stargate controller to link them just boggles my mind.

>Jim< nailed it on the head with this comment, “It's not a matter of the technology being available it's more so a matter of politics and what is the fire service motto something like "100 years of tradition impeded by progress"? It's not a matter of the radios systems abilities or lack of, there are many more deep seated problems than that.”

I would jump at the chance to attend on of the “monthly meetings,” and just grill the people there! I would say WTF is going on. Why does it take people losing their lives for something to change? Lets be the first to say we were PREACTIVE vs. PROACTIVE. We the people trust you to serve us and keep us safe, thus your job description, “PUBLIC SAFETY.”

If the leaders of both cities were directly involved, maybe there would be changes. Seems to me the more advances in technology the metro area adopts, the more red tape there is to overcome.

I believe this has been stated before, but you would think the metro agencies would have worked around this problem after the Columbine incident. Perhaps the students and the teacher could have been saved if all the police, fire, and ems agencies communicated together and coordinated their efforts. I believe it would be safe to say that none of the agencies have trained for such an event before it happened, but I also believe it is prudent for all agencies to train on such things together including being able to communicate with neighboring agencies very quickly - whatever it takes to make that happen is what needs to be done.

Just as a side note, the 95% is a rule that I have seen many jurisdictions use - 95% portable coverage in 95% of the buildings, 95% of the time. I doubt that there is any manufacturer, dealer, or systems administrator that would want to put on paper that they will ensure 100% coverage in 100% of the buildings 100% of the time.

Are you talking about Bruce Waldo who use to be the Director of Parks and Recreation in Aurora? The Waldo who bought Regency two-way radios so save money. The Regency two-way that used the receive board out of the Regency scanner. One of the poorest LMR's ever made.

Aurora won't allow it period!

Under the Colorado Sunshine Law it should be a public meeting that you are entitled to attend.
