Between whatever Uniden may or may not have in the works over the next few months along with this I better start rolling my pennies until 2014 gets here. Looks like it'll be a good year.

Well Kids we have 3 months and some Change till Christmas, Make Momma happy do your chores outside and those Honey Doo's inside Cleaning the House:roll:and she just might surprise ya with a new Radio if they Whistler or Uniden happen's to re-lease one before Christmas, But if one doesn't come at Christmas time hey we have Valentine's Day if no Radio by then.. there's Easter to look forward too..

UMMMM,... First Quarter 2014.... Anytime from January 01, thru March 30..... So maybeeeeeeeeeeee by April for most Radio Shacks, and CB shops, including Flying J's etc.....
I'll happen a guess on this one: A digital scanner that actually works like a P25 radio on multisite systems? PSR's come close, but I think we aren't close enough in the tech world to make a scanner work exactly like a commercial trunking radio quite yet. Maybe just a few more years....

Hopefully he'll explain but my guess would be he meant -> overcome of the digital simulcast issues.

I was also thinking he meant digital simulcast. The psr500 did pretty good, and the 800 even better (at least on the simulcast system i listen to the most). Unidens on the other hand..... lol. I just hope uniden makes some huge improvements in this regard before they even try to attempt phase II

LOL, or even an APX..... At least the APX catches up a bit on scanners with the multiband/multisystem, conventional/trunking, analog/P25 I/II capabilities.... Now eventually Motorola and Harris will do a version of the Thales Multibander..... Which actually would be what would be needed for TN Statewide agencies on the TACN as its 3 bands.... VHF/700/800...... So we shall see what Whistler comes up with.. And the new Uniden HP2 series ....
I know that big news crews and police might buy these new radios if they run for 500 to 700. but the truth is a lot of people right now are out of work or on unemployment and a lot of fire companies and townships are broke can even get roads repaired closed until when ever. and no new spending on trucks ect. right now they are upgrading there 800mhz system. and that it for money. if this is the price of these new units I guess I will be listening to railroads and airplanes. and pager only if they work.

Which means the radio doesn't use some simple and ineffective discriminator tap that won't properly decode the waveform. Some of us would actually like to hear usable audio from the many hundreds of P25 systems using CQPSK- which has been part of the P25 standard- so it isn't like we are asking for something that cannot be done.
Have you been under a rock? The poor performance of current digital scanners (from all the vendors) on CQPSK systems is due to their inherent design flaws. Read and study these threads, to name of a few of the hundred or so that show up on this site:

In other words we need a scanner that can properly decode CQPSK using linear simulcast modulation (LSM). The scanner's DSP would need to tap the I/Q directly from the radio's IF instead of the discriminator's baseband audio. I have been saying this for quite some time!

You do know that with the exception of older 800 only radios that 700/800 is usually considered one band as far as radios go, right?
That is why the dual band Motorola APX is available in VHF and 700/800. BTW, the Harris Unity is already a multi-band radio covering VHF, UHF, and 700/800.
So... Uniden has the "Bear Tracker" feature.

An ABACUS type SDR front end chip is whey need badly. As MTS2000DES said, the half ***** demod isn't cutting it with simulcast systems. I've stopped buying anything new until this is changed because nothing is usable. A friend of mine can't even hear the KCPD P25 system from the court house down town and he's about as central to the system as you can get. He gave up trying to use his 396XT down there.
Knoxville/Knox County TN uses a Motorola Type II Smartnet, analog, trunked, simulcast system. Loud and clear on both Uniden and GRE scanners.

TN, GA (TACN) Project 25 Phase II, trunked, simulcast system on 700 MHz, and 800 MHz loud and clear on a PSR-800.
Small world, I think I just bought your friends PSR-800!! :lol: It was located in OH, buy-it-now @ $575. The bids were dancing around $400 and I jumped on it before someone else did.
Sounded like a great deal, kept inside, looked nice and clean, freshly updated firmware, and all the accessories. I've always wanted one, have had the 500 for years now, and here in Portland OR, P25 II is inevitable, so I moved on the 800 on eBay today given my 500 only does P25 I.
Looking forward to getting it in hand and jumping in with both feet! It's a brilliant scanner, and right now about impossible to find. My lucky day!

I saw that they are going to be making some cheaper non trunking VHF/UHF scanners. I would love for them to add some unique features in them that might not be in some of the more fancy models. Things like MDC1200 decode and alias lists or fleetsync decoding and things like that. They would probably sell a ton if they made a simple Low/VHF/UHF scanner that did MDC1200 decode and included 2tone alerting like how Uniden currently offers.
